They're still out there. Water proof call. Hard rain they will hunker down sometimes. Choose wisely where you sit.

Short grass or pasture. I don't like to hunt any fields in the rain that come up much past my ankles if possible when it's wet. Same thing with a heavy dew in the mornings.

Mouth calls are not impacted much by rain, turkeys will break cover when it’s wet rain or snow. It’s a good time to locate birds that have been quiet or playing hard to get. Open areas are your friend roads, trails or field edges become high traffic areas. Fly down is often delayed from minutes to hours don’t rush the process.

They might be harder to call but they seem to feed more when out in those open areas in bad weather like before any storm that’s coming. The nice thing about rain in moving through the woods quietly is easier. Down pours suck misting rain not great just try to stay dry if you want to wait them out.

Man I hate killing wet turkeys. Feels like I'm doing something wrong. I don't hunt much in the rain anymore

Gotta live up to the nickname...

We hunt ground blinds or good rain gear. Heavy rain we do not hunt. Steady or light rain turkeys like all others have to eat and breed. We call and hunt as usual, not tall grass hunts as stated.

Get to the plowed dirt fields, find a dry spot and stay there. They love to get out there and pick worms. I used to teach turkey seminars and this was probably asked more times than anything else.

When the rain stops, birds will gather in the open fields then lay down and sun themselves while preening their feathers. They will stay there for quite a while. So don't just look for standing birds. Look for dark patches in the green grass then you'll notice their heads. Get into position, be patient and only call when they stand up. Call lightly.

Lots of good advice on hunting wet turkeys.
They sure don’t like being in a wet woods during and after a rain.
You can locate and put a sneak on one much easier on a day like that.

They gobble well at thunder......some of my best hunting is the 30 minutes before rain starts. They gobble and seem to lose some of their fear when thunder roars.......respond good to aggressive and quick calling and don't seem to hang up as much. They seem to want to get it done as well before the rain......

The leaves are wet, so you can spot and stock, through woods to field edges.

Help yourself.

Some states have shorter seasons compared to other states so if you’re looking at bad weather hit your shorter seasons first if you can do that.

Well the birds 25 or so miles south of you were moving today.

Did you get out?
