Maybe but would you feed your family a deer you know had cwd?
I've got a friend who's deer tested positive back in 2016.he kept it and ate it.so far him,his wife and family members are doing fine.not sure if I would or not if mine tested positive.
Yea, that's why I don't get mine tested. If it has it, I don't want to know.

Animal activist not wanting you to eat meat thru scare tactics. Maybe but would you feed your family a deer you know had cwd? Some deer get sick and die.Been happening since beginning of time.I don't worry about it or eating fish as well with the claims of mercury.

That "study" is a joke, and no one should be surprised the only placed it was published was Yahoo. They don't even know if they guy that died ever ate an infected deer. They just assume he did because he's a hunter and a positive deer had been found in that area, though they convenient leave out how many and if they were even wild deer. No longer does the term "study" have any legitimacy, the vast majority that you read about on the internet have a predetermined goal. In this case, it's to scare people from eating deer meat, i.e, keep people from hunting. It was published in Neurology, which is a medical journal. Yahoo just picked it up and regurgitated it for the general public. Happens all the time in "science news". I have first-hand experience with it, and sometimes it's interesting to see what direction/spin journalists will put on a journal article. If you want to know the nitty-gritty (and if you can get access) it's always a good idea to read the original journal article. You're right though; "study" doesn't really apply. It's really a report that is intended to call attention to the issue so that other doctors/scientists will be on the lookout and do more work in the future. That seems to be the intention of the original authors anyway. There is some info that relates CWD, CJD, Mad Cow......to Alzheimer's. ...and others too. This entire group of diseases is very poorly understood, so poorly understood in fact, that (more or less behind the scenes) there's still some debate as to whether prions are the infectious agent or merely a symptom. Check out some of the work by Laura Manuelidis from Yale, who suggests that endogenous lentiviruses could be playing an important role.

no tellin how many thousands of deer-elk-moose have been consumed throughout the years before cwd was "discovered" and no tellin how many thousands of $ have been made studying it and "testing it "since it was "discovered"

I eat deer from my CWD free area of Va without concern. When I take a cervid from a CWD area, such as the Wy MD I took in 2021, I extract the lymph nodes from the neck and have it tested. If it tests positive the meat will not be eaten. It is pretty simple to protect myself and family. You make your own choice.

I wish everyone that believes this kinda crap would remember 35 years ago when AIDS was prevalent.
Kept me from having some " glorious " times with beautiful gals.
For YEARS..., AIDS was the major news headlines. Not even a thing anymore? Follow the $$$.
swampgas chili and schmidt beer makes for a deadly combo
You have to remember that 1 out of 3 Democratic Voters is just as dumb as the other two.

Ill trust the deer I harvest. I do all my own butchering, lot of places mix up everyones deer meat. Theres a lot more harmfull stuff in prepared foods. And is mystery meat from the grocery store tested for everything? How about when you go out to eat? I agree ^^^ I do all my own processing too for the same reasons^^^

I wrote a 4-H speech on Prion diseases last year and there is a lot they don't know about it. In Canada, there are around 100 cases of CJD annually. Of these cases around 6% are passed from parent to child through genetics, 1% is from transmission (They list mad cow disease or through medical procedures), and the remaining 93% are caused by unknown causes. Scientists have never proven that CWD can cause CJD: "There is no direct evidence that the disease can be transmitted to humans and there have been no reports of cases of disease in humans." While it isn't proven I still don't think I would intentionally eat infected meat just because of how uncertain the science is in this area. These are the websites I cited if anyone wants to look into it deeper: https://www.canada.ca/content/dam/p...llance-system-factsheet/factsheet-en.pdfhttp://www.bccdc.ca/health-info/diseases-conditions/chronic-wasting-disease

We will all die of something. I like venison and freshwater fish. If I can tell its sick I wont eat it. Otherwise I am going to live till I die. Who wants to die in a nursing home anyway????

If you are worried about it just don't eat the brain or spinal column. Bone out any meat along the spinal column, and as long as you don't cut through the spinal column with a meat saw, you probably have nothing to worry about.
