My oldest is a boy, him and I did/do everything in the outdoors together from the time he could walk.
Except skip day.
One day every spring, after we would drop the boy off at high school, instead of heading for the grade school or middle school with my two daughters, I’d turn the other way and head for the grocery store. I’d see them in the back seat, huge eyes and whispering to each other. I’d pull into the store parking lot and say “we’ll let’s go in and get some grub for lunch on the river!” They would both scream “YEAH SKIP DAAAYYY!!!” We’d head home and hit the river for the day. I’d have the set lines, fishing rods bait cooler etc already packed and the boat in the water waiting for us, (we live on the river so made it kind of easy). We would put out bank lines while searching for a sand bar that looked good for lunch and exploring. Then fish and explore from the sand bar. The bank lines were checked and pulled on the way back.
My wife would always be mad that I didn’t call the school and tell them the girls wouldn’t be there. I’d say, “we’ll it’s not skipping if ya call and tell em!” Sometimes the school would call right away in the am, sometimes they would call in the afternoon and sometimes they wouldn’t call at all. Not a great system.
My son and two daughters are grown now, we’ll in their 20s anyway. But all live real close and we still fish and hunt together a lot as a family. Have our first two grandkids on the way. Hope to keep the skip day tradition alive with them!

I don't have any daughter but would like to respond to the thread. I have two granddaughters and I can tell you they are very special and are completely different than boys in their mindset and raising.
My 6 year old GD we like to take walks and we talk about different topics. It is one of the special times for me to bond. We have three little items hidden and we check on those small treasure to make sure they are still there. It is a great thing because she wants to go check and then we can be in the outdoors together. The other one is just 1 year old and I'm hoping for the bonding with her in the outdoors also.
I have so much to offer them both at the ranch and being part of the outdoors. I just hope they find that connection and we can enjoy that together as the years go on.
Give me a fish, I will eat for a day. Teach me to fish, I will eat for a lifetime

used to take them to 4-H stuff and do cooking ,baking , canning with them.
now that they are adults , we go for fancy coffee and my wife is in to coffee also so more of a mom dad daughter thing.
was at a Barista league competition this fall with them ,it was interesting , I got to try out a fancy expresso machine the same one the competitors were using and make some drinks myself .
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

My "daddy daughter thing" to do is to go to church every Sunday and thank the good Lord that he didn't give us any. I'm certain that He already knows that other couples are far better suited for raising daughters. The horror stories which I hear from my buddies who have daughters makes me want to rush home and hug my two boys.
