What is Your Daddy Daughter Thing?

What is Your Daddy Daughter Thing? - 01/11/24 01:23 AM

I have six daughter's and with my daughter Eve our thing is donating blood together. I know weird but she learned of a company that insures your donation will be used in your state. She keeps track of when we can give again after a donation and signs me up to go with her as soon as a location is available. i make the time when she tells me too. She is tiny and they struggle to find her veins. I am average size but you could throw a rock and find mine. She is so proud when she is done and I enjoy being a part of that. We donated tonight. Bonus...getting my monies worth from my Jim Beam! lol

That’s unique. Don’t have any daughters and it’s probably a good thing, lol. I have seen what a granddaughter who’s only two can make Puppa do. I’d be flat broke if I’d had daughters!

I don't rifle hunt anymore. I sit with my daughter every season when she rifle hunts for the last 20 plus years. Occasionally, She is my fishing buddy also.

When I was much, much younger, I enjoyed squirrel hunting with my Dad. He would shoot them. I would run to pick up the dead squirrel and he would put them on a big nail for me to carry. I felt super important!!!

Getting the youth involved sometimes is enough.

It used to be hunting but she quit that at around 18. Now it's more of me going up and talking while checking out her amazing animal tank displays. Snake, toads many types of frog's and small lizers and fish. Muti level tanks with water feature and multi species of live plants.

We just went on a snowmachine ride with her first gun, a little badger 22 break action I painted pink for her Christmas present. She knocked a Ptarmigan, but didn't get him. She's 8.

My daughter is 8. Our thing this fall/winter has been squirrel hunting. She has gone hunting with me in years past but this is her first year behind the gun. She uses my .22 lr and can handle it very well. I worked with her a lot, plinking targets before I let her take the gun in the woods. Well , after she proved to be a great shot, to the woods we went. She is such a good hunter, very patient and quiet. She’s got 11 squirrels so far this season, and impresses me more every time we go. We even went on Christmas Day for a few hours, it’s what she wanted to do after she opened her presents.

I enjoy spending time with her in the woods and on the water. She’s such a great kid and absolutely loves the outdoors. Very talented, makes me proud

My daughters are grown with kids of their own. One is a gramma now. When young we would camp and trotline a couple times every summer. They trapped with me. Hunted with me. Now its family dinners on holidays and fishing, hunting, trapping with grandkids.

Re: What is Your Daddy Daughter Thing? - 01/11/24 01:19 PM

My oldest is a boy, him and I did/do everything in the outdoors together from the time he could walk.

Except skip day.

One day every spring, after we would drop the boy off at high school, instead of heading for the grade school or middle school with my two daughters, I’d turn the other way and head for the grocery store. I’d see them in the back seat, huge eyes and whispering to each other. I’d pull into the store parking lot and say “we’ll let’s go in and get some grub for lunch on the river!” They would both scream “YEAH SKIP DAAAYYY!!!” We’d head home and hit the river for the day. I’d have the set lines, fishing rods bait cooler etc already packed and the boat in the water waiting for us, (we live on the river so made it kind of easy). We would put out bank lines while searching for a sand bar that looked good for lunch and exploring. Then fish and explore from the sand bar. The bank lines were checked and pulled on the way back.

My wife would always be mad that I didn’t call the school and tell them the girls wouldn’t be there. I’d say, “we’ll it’s not skipping if ya call and tell em!” Sometimes the school would call right away in the am, sometimes they would call in the afternoon and sometimes they wouldn’t call at all. Not a great system.

My son and two daughters are grown now, we’ll in their 20s anyway. But all live real close and we still fish and hunt together a lot as a family. Have our first two grandkids on the way. Hope to keep the skip day tradition alive with them!

Both daughters grown and have 2 kids each so I take grandkids fishing. My youngest daughter went with me a lot crappie and white bass fishing back when she was little. Oldest daughter never into outdoor recreation. So she shopped with her mother

Re: What is Your Daddy Daughter Thing? - 01/11/24 01:56 PM

I never knew my dad. Therefore my grandpap and I were super close! I was always in the garage with him, cracking walnuts in a vise, feeding the birds and chipmunks in his backyard, and making hot dogs on top the little pot bellied stove on foil. He would get butter and onions and put that on first, then it was my job to roll the hot dogs around so they would brown evenly. Finally he would toast the buns on all that butter. Winter time was my very favorite with him. He was an incredibly resourceful man. He was a trapper as a young boy but I never got to talk to him about it much. He did take me fishing for bluegill while he would poke around with a medal detector.
He is the reason I am who I am. I live a simple life and I love tinkering in the garage and spending time in solitude with a nice fire and appreciation in my heart. [Linked Image]

Me and kenni, have our own high five which she changed just last week and added a belly bump, I think it was supposed to be a chest bump, however she can't jump that high yet and my belly gets in the way. We also ride horses together when her mom is to busy, and last year she roped me into watching the farmer needs a wife, commercial came on a few days ago it come back on in February she done said it's happening again. We do go fishing every now and then.

I don't have any daughter but would like to respond to the thread. I have two granddaughters and I can tell you they are very special and are completely different than boys in their mindset and raising.

My 6 year old GD we like to take walks and we talk about different topics. It is one of the special times for me to bond. We have three little items hidden and we check on those small treasure to make sure they are still there. It is a great thing because she wants to go check and then we can be in the outdoors together. The other one is just 1 year old and I'm hoping for the bonding with her in the outdoors also.

I have so much to offer them both at the ranch and being part of the outdoors. I just hope they find that connection and we can enjoy that together as the years go on.

used to take them to 4-H stuff and do cooking ,baking , canning with them.

now that they are adults , we go for fancy coffee and my wife is in to coffee also so more of a mom dad daughter thing.

was at a Barista league competition this fall with them ,it was interesting , I got to try out a fancy expresso machine the same one the competitors were using and make some drinks myself .

My daughters are all grown and have there own family now (grand kids are the best) Although we never had a thing, it was always what ever came up is what we did. Now I'm just a phone call away. so when they need or want something i'm on it. I also have a niece that comes from a dysfunctional home life. When she calls I do what I can. A few months back I was the one that took her to find a wedding dress. Fortunately I am able to buy it and other things she needs. Although I will not be the one to walk her down the aisle, she and I both know that I am the one she can count on.

Lots of great stories and ideas! Love the pictures as well. While I do not have any Eve blood drive pics (lol) I do have a couple Eve pics easy to upload on this computer. Couple of Eve at high school graduation and one of her at a country concert she went to with a couple sisters and her mom.

Our family has some pretty good singers. It's fun sit at the piano and sing parts with my three daughters and wife. Especially at Christmas. Sometimes my sons and sons in law join in as well.

I've got three daughters - 30, 26 and 11. They have all been hunting, trapping and fishing with me and enjoy the outdoors. Whenever I want to lure the older two home I tell them I'm taking the boat out tomorrow and they will usually show up.

Rodeos and barrel racing soak up a lot of our time. Trapping, hunting, and fishing takes up the rest. [Linked Image]

Mine is grown, married and has her first kid on the way

We hunted a lot when she was still living at home.

Only thing she is scared of is insects

She was the one I worried would get caught with a weapon at school. She always had some kind of knife on her when she reached teen years.

Mine is also grown and has three daughters of her own. My daughter and I share the same sense of humor so it can get pretty rough if you're on the receiving end sometimes. I wouldn't have it any other way.

My "daddy daughter thing" to do is to go to church every Sunday and thank the good Lord that he didn't give us any.
I'm certain that He already knows that other couples are far better suited for raising daughters.
The horror stories which I hear from my buddies who have daughters makes me want to rush home and hug my two boys. smile
