I can send you the pins you need to hold the trigger group in so you can get rid of the tape. Cut the barrel off at 18.5 inches and make it a home defense gun.
I have nothing clever to put here.

Now, about those trigger group pins..................

Been back in the 70s, store had an 870-12, kicked so bad my friend asked me to shoot it. Worst you could imagine for a 2-3/4 hi brass shell. Took it back, It was sold to multiple folks, all of which took it back. I used a Savage 2 bbl 12 FOX that kicked pretty good, but hated that 870... so did everyone else that shot it. Never understood what was up with it. It was brutal, for some reason. Strange, to me , to this day. Any ideas ?

I'd hang that Elmer Fudd gun above the door or fire place

Just a guess crow foot but factory quality control is done by humans.
Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

I own 2, each is like an old friend. The 20 ga Wingmaster saw a pile of use since I bought it new in '75. The 12 ga 870 Express took over when my All Purpose Boy started hunting and carrying the 20 ga. Most all of my Tman fellow members have seen many photos of that old 12 ga cornsheller with a dead turkey laying by it and a row or three of turkey tracks burned into the camo'd stock. If either of those old guns blew a gasket like yours did I'm sure I would weep openly over it. My condolences.
