I can send you the pins you need to hold the trigger group in so you can get rid of the tape. Cut the barrel off at 18.5 inches and make it a home defense gun.

I have nothing clever to put here.

Not done yet

Good opportunity to clean her up, make some repairs, grab a new barrel with Remchoke (or have a gunsmith cut and thread that one) and keep on going

Looks like a wad got stuck at the end

Doesn't look like a choke tube barrel. If not, it wasn't acceptable for steel shot use.

18.5 is a good recommendation

I don't trust ATF and I want to make sure there is no doubt that its legal. Now, about those trigger group pins..................

I have nothing clever to put here.

Wife's cousin had one like that. But he was excited shooting a at big buck he thought was down and it was not lost his balance and ended up firing a slug with the barrel in the water.

Yes he is a dandy and I have zero use for and legally not allow to be hunting with a gun. Last I saw of him was the front page of the paper where he hit and ran a parked car and was arrested on foot a few blocks away.

Like the wife said " well he is not part of our life and now that my grandparents are dead its not like we have any reasion to see him or his dad again" I pointed out they will come to her dad's funeral when he dies.

looks like you got your money's worth over the years. Been using my 870 since 1995ish. Was a combo that came with a cheap slug and shot barrel. Killed five deer with it this season. No steel shot going through it though. Heartbreaking seeing an old gun go!

Been back in the 70s, store had an 870-12, kicked so bad my friend asked me to shoot it. Worst you could imagine for a 2-3/4 hi brass shell. Took it back, It was sold to multiple folks, all of which took it back.
I used a Savage 2 bbl 12 FOX that kicked pretty good, but hated that 870... so did everyone else that shot it.
Never understood what was up with it. It was brutal, for some reason.
Strange, to me , to this day.
Any ideas ?

I'd hang that Elmer Fudd gun above the door or fire place

Just a guess crow foot but factory quality control is done by humans.

I own 2, each is like an old friend. The 20 ga Wingmaster saw a pile of use since I bought it new in '75. The 12 ga 870 Express took over when my All Purpose Boy started hunting and carrying the 20 ga. Most all of my Tman fellow members have seen many photos of that old 12 ga cornsheller with a dead turkey laying by it and a row or three of turkey tracks burned into the camo'd stock. If either of those old guns blew a gasket like yours did I'm sure I would weep openly over it. My condolences.
