Any ideas how to remove the rust
I did get the bolt out I think I will put it in vinegar
There is also an object in the barrel that I have to remove I think it's a bug of sorts

I did one almost that bad. I steel wooled the devil out of it, them used some Birchwood Casey's rust remover on it, then steel wooled again.

It turned out good.

EVaporust

get the wood off and find a tub you can get that into maybe a pvc pipe with and end cap you can stand that up in

you will have to see what the bore looks like after the rust is off

The object I think was what we call a mud-dobber I started cleaning out the barrel
All the parts move as they should in my opinion
From others with more expertise do you think it's safe to shoot?
I think I am going with hippies suggestion

Do the old trick of setting it in an unmounted tire and pulling the trigger with a length of string if you're worried.

There's places that have parts for those old Model 60s if you need something.

I'd say IF there is going to be a problem it will be crud/rust in the barrel have eat up the rifling. Let's hope you're lucky.

So I have been cleaning up the barrel
What do I do about the spots?
Or am I ready to blue?

Looking good, I'd do a little more and then rub with Birchwood Casey's rust remover.

Last one I did, midway sold a kit from B.C. that had everything needed to blue in one kit, including the rust remover.

Looks like they still have it....

i would have just rubbed the barrel down with oil until i had a nice browned finish. where your at now i would still brown the barrel.

Anyone that owns a gun and votes democrat deserves to have there gun taken, cause they truly are too stupid to own a gun.

I have heard good things about this stuff from brownells
https://www.brownells.com/tools-cleaning/paint-metal-prep/metal-bluing/oxpho-blue/?sku=082024004

as for firing if the barrel looks good and the bolt closes fine , it's a 22 they don't exactly have a lot of pressure .

you could play it safe and remotely fire it with a string

Do what Hippie says. - No Vinegar.

I've seen worse. This one went through a fire and sat in some ashes for a few years. If you get something stuck like this one was try electrolysis. it freed this pistol up so I could get the firing pin and ejector out. I finished a rusty barrel with Cericote and it filled in some of the pits and looks great.

Even without the grips the 1911 is beautiful. That is my favorite handgun.
