Check out Emile Durkheim. He found that suicide rates Do indeed Decrease during the winter. To rise again when the sun returns. Of course, we'd all imagine that the cold and gloom of winter would push the depressed over the edge. Whilst, bright, sunny days would lift the spirit. Yeah?

Not so, apparently. Seems, during winter, when everyone's on more of a self imposed 'lockdown' ~ staying indoors, trying to keep warm. Heads, literally, down when they do go out. Hunched against the miserable, driving rain. Everyone just gets on with it. Everything and every One is gray and miserable. (Yes. It's a generalisation. But, try living in an inner city!)

Comes summer? Everyone's out and about. Smiling. Socialising. Pretty girls in their summer clothes ..... And there's ye 'Gray Man'. Still locked in his personal, 'eternal', bleak winter of the soul. But, now he's seeing everyone else being happy. That's what compounds and magnifies his own misery. Enough becomes Enough.

See how Durkheims findings mirrored the expectation, Vs. the Reality of the lock down situation? Always thought that rather fascinating, myself.

Very sorry you have to deal with that. My cousin, grandpa and his brother all committed suicide. Hope everyone your neighbor left behind can find peace.

Prayers to those in pain, those that have been left behind by friends and family, and those that are fighting daily with health and other issues, (physical or mental or a mix). Not to mention the anxiety and addictions of this world.

I have lost friends and worked with others to see what God has yet for them here on earth.

A difficult subject, but it is important for everyone to realize that everyone is dealing with something, they may just not be able, willing or accepting enough for help.

Prayers for the families involved.

Thanks for sharing, hope things calm down in your neighborhood and our world.

Sorry for your loss Cathryn. I have never had a neighbor committing suicide and certainly hope I never have to deal with this. However, I see it all the time in my line of work. There is always a story behind their decision, many people are hurting in silence.

My daughter just saved a young man about two weeks ago. He called her while he was about to jump off a bridge. She kept him on the phone and managed to call police. She told police dispatch he had a bad experience with police and to be careful when approaching him.

She kept talking to him while police managed to take control of the situation, and everything went well. Unfortunately, last week he called her to give her hard time. He called her names just because she didn't keep checking on him while he was at hospital. She shrugged it off, saying he was not himself.

I am really not sure I would have handled it but she did pretty good. We are pretty proud of this little woman.

We've had that in our family too. Yes, it leaves so many questions.

In training I was told to be extra careful around suicide attempts because if they do not care about their life they will not hesitate to take yours.
Prayers for the friends and family.

Thanks everyone.

Somethings have come up

After hearing neighborhood talk..some straight from the horses mouth..
Something doesn't smell.right
Things aren't adding up.

I really don't buy it

There's no way if he was alive he let her leave his house with his truck and 3 guns..which shed sold before thwy even found his body.

I spoke with the detective this morning to see where the investigation stood

It's not been ruled a suicide..although that's what she told me. It's still under investigation.

Word.for word sunday..when her daughter was offered condolenscences she aaid.." it had to happen there was no other outcome."
When she was asked WHAT?? immediately when she said it. Sje repeated i. A dead pa. Voice " There was no other outcome.'

I heard it with my own ears.

I knew him and know his gf..been friends with both a long time.

I hope justice..whatever it is is served.

Hmmm, sounds like something else is going on.

We had an instance where I showed my not so compassionate side when I found out what I’d been saying what I thought was going on for years.
It turns out a step father who adopted a daughter from the woman he was married to was having “relations” with the daughter and had been for years. From about 11-14yrs of age. It finally came out when the daughter confided in a member of my family. The “father” left work and went to his hunting camper and called and was threatening suicide if she didn’t change her story. I told him if he didn’t have the gonads to do it I’d be more than happy to come help. What he didn’t know is there were several on the way to “help” him. He decided to do it himself, before we got there. What makes it worse was the mother knew…she was next on the list, but the Deputies got to her first.

Believe it or not, the mother and daughter are back together…our court system is whacked at best.

I am worried about the suicide rate going up dramatically among the young kids in school being talked into being called trans before they even reach puberty. So they buy into it and time goes by and they realize that they don't even know what that means, but they were labeled that. so that's what they are. In my mind, this labelling crap must come to an abrupt halt. Its confusing enough being young. We don't need homosexual whack jobs grooming our children, hoping that "converting" them will somehow validate their lifestyle choice.
I am not anti-gay. A good friend of mine has a daughter who I have known since she was in eighth grade. She came to the conclusion that she wanted to bat from the other side of the plate at around 21 years old. I am like an uncle to her. My friend reluctantly told me the news one day. I told him that it doesn't change a thing. She is one of my favorite young people of all time. Every time I say goodbye to her, she gives me a hug and we tell each other, "Love you."

I raised a social worker and she mostly work with teenagers. She sees all kinds and for some depression is an on-going issue. She does her best to guide them through various assistance programs but for some, the struggle is real.
