Best way to get a paw paw seed to germinate is to swallow the seeds whole and fish them out of the toilet later. A pet raccoon is an easier way.
Those seeds are designed that way so that it forces the seeds away from the patch of paw paws where the fruit fell.
When you find a patch of paw paw trees, what you are actually looking at is a single tree which are all attached at the root system via root suckers.

This mystery plant is growing quickly. It is about 3 feet tall now.

It is shooting off extendions of several tenacles that have attached and wrapped around the support cage and the net fencing that I put around it to protecot it from all the deer around here.

It wouldn't last a couple nights without protection of some sort.
