my buddy is going in next weerk for new aortic valve they say there going to do it through his wrist...amazing what they can do wwe went in today

A friend of mine had his aortic valve replaced about 5 years ago. He's doing fine. He has to take certain meds and warfarin checks every month. It only took him a couple months and he was back to pretty much normal.
It is amazing the advances in medical technology.

Question on the guys with stents. They wanted me to undergo open heart 7 months ago for aortic stenosis. Then they told me i had 3 teeth questionable so they wanted them yanked. Then they told me the down time was like 2 months of restrictions and couldnt drive etc. I have a 9 yr old and a decent size property so i cant take the downtime. I asked about stents and they told me they want open heart because im strong enough now and when the valve wears out around 74 yrs old maybe im not strong enough for open heart. Ive had leukemia 14 yrs and truthfully,i dont feel my life expectancy is much past 74 if im that lucky. Im gonna opt for stents but they say my valve is defective since birth they believe.(cleveland clinic.) My son has no family in usa but me so I feel I better do the less invasive procedure.

Aortic valve replaced with mechanical in 1976 (16 years old) due to hole in valve. Back to doing most things a little over a month later. That valve was being phased out at the time of surgery so it had to be replaced in 1990. Had it done Aug. 8 and was able to get out archery hunting Beginning of Oct. (hugging a tree though wasn't something I'd recommend!). Mitral valve leaflets started tearing so it was replaced with a mechanical in Jan. 3, 2000. Shouldn't have but was shoveling snow end of Jan. So would think with PT close to 2 months. Oh the valves are supposed to have a 180 year warrenty...I plan on waiting 179 years to use it! smile

In my case no. I was having a heart attack and they dropped in 2 stents with in about a half hour. I had and still have a tooth that will not be around forever.

They put a pig valve in me, only trouble I have is when I go past a garbage dump.
