My sister-in-law is a very health-conscious 62-year-old retiree. She is a marathon runner (Boston twice). Went to a chiropractor with discomfort in one thigh (IT bands) and casually mentioned an occasional chest spasm. He sent her straight to her family doctor, that day. Several scans later, she was diagnosed with a mass in a lung, and tumors on her spine. The mass is 3 cm. The T-6 vertebra is surrounded by malignant nodules. It is in lymph nodes as well. Sounds bad.
Never smoked. She is the healthiest person I know. Runs several miles before daylight each morning with a small group of girls, then goes to a CrossFit center for a couple of hours, rain or shine.
She lives in Long Beach CA. Maybe the air there is bad, or maybe it is her genetics or just plain bad luck. How can this be?

Three weeks ago found out in the same week my father in law has prostate cancer and my mother in law has lymphoma and the lymphocytes are in her blood and spreading. Crazy that it’s not just one but both of them. Seriously worried that there may be radon or some contaminants in the house which caused them both to get cancer at the same time. Thats sad. We were worried about radon so did a test. Thankfully our house was good.

Cancer thrives on sugar according to some of the reports I've read. A person who has cancer, eating sugar causes it to spread more rapidly according to the report.
Remember as a kid we played army and you gave up the fort so the other side got it? Of course you don't. Little kids aren't that stupid.

Cancer is such a complex field of study. Many times people who live in the same area, eat the same food, etc etc end up some will get cancer and some not. Genetics is pretty important because certain gene combinations leave you more susceptible.
Free radical damage has a lot to do with it and the longer we live the more free radical damage our cells sustain. But wait! Eating lots of fruits and leafy vegetables , dark chocolate, etc have things called antioxidants in them. Antioxidants move throughout our system and gobble up free radicals as they're being released. I wonder how much cancer could be avoided if people ate the amount of fruits and veggies that the FDA suggests we should.
Among things that produce carcinogens are preservatives in foods, plastic contamination, and of course burnt fats. Pesticides in the food and water we drink are not to be discounted either.
But unfortunately, there is always going to be people that do everything right and get cancer.... and then there's those that smoke, eat poorly, don't exercise, etc etc and live to 100.

Middle age Firefighter near me just died of “environmental cancer”. Never really thought about that before. Guess that’s another hazard of being a Firefighter.

You SIL being in good health is going to fair very good that she is in good health. A good strong body will help her tremendously going through the treatments. Tell her to stay strong and keep us posted.

I hope and pray things go well for your sister in law there's over 3,600 different types of cancer a couple of my friends on here and I all had basically the same type of cancer we've all survived it quite well even if I've had other complications from the treatments but I'm still kicking !
