Only the female makes a nest and raises the young.

Not like many other species of birds.

Now is our prime time for hummingbirds. We are refilling 5 quart feeders daily. We take down our feeders the third week of August so that they will move on down south.

Just saw some hummingbirds while we were hiking in the Badlands of western SD last weekend. They sure seemed to like the canada thistle flowers.

I need a fix i have four Perky-Pet hummer feeders. They will leak out sugar water in one day from the tube that flower fits over and then the wasp deter bulb.

Hummers are still here. Every year they leave within a couple days of labor day

Feeding for more than 40 years took a bit to get started. 5 feeders and about 100 hummers at our current peak. Juice goes fast.
Most leave on the first cool night close to the end of August.
A few straggle thru for a week or so.
I miss them when they leave.

Still in our yard and at our two feeders. They prefer our flowers to our feeders.

We have three or four around here. It was an odd year for them here at our place. Would see one female but not very often. Now in the last two weeks we are seeing a male and three females and they chase one another off the feeders. The really like the last batch of sugar water the wife made the other day.

A friend of mine who lives 8 miles N of me saw 2 this morning. But I think they were migrating as they were the first in a while. And I haven't seen any in at least 2 weeks.

Still here. The feeder is going down but seldom see them. I put it too close to the house window so I could see them. Probably an error on my part. Fewer than last year here too. I had about 3-4 pairs last year. Not that many this year.
Here it is usally after Labor Day when they leave.

We love hummingbirds, but have so much wind, we can't seem to keep a feeder from making a huge mess. I have noticed a lot of martens lately, guessing that they're bugging out (pun intended)!

Have two that come up to a railing mounted planter right outside the front door with the wife’s flowers. See at least one each day on the Ring camera
