What does engine sound like? I know from experience, that the 01 and 02 Ford 4.0 starts to rattle over 150,000 miles, my 02 blew a hole in the valve cover when the teflon chain guides decided to wear out while going down the road with 172,000 miles on it.

They were good dependable trucks. I had a couple of them. Only downside was gas milage was no better than a full size for half the truck. Yep. More mpg for a smaller lighter truck. I hade a new 95….couldn’t keep clutch plates in it.

Both the 2.9 and the 4.0 were great engines. IF, like everything else well cared for. I had a 2.9 in a Bronco II that had good care and had 335,000 when I sold it to local people in my small town rural America. They drove it for a couple years. Our son had a 2.9 in a Ranger that was great. He also had a 4.0 that was great in a Ranger. Congratulations on the great find!

Got a 2004 that came out of Florida. No rust. City truck they used to spray mosquitos with. 4.0 with120,000 +/- miles the passenger side cam guide went out and jumped time. Put a OEM reman engine in it. Cheaper this way than to buy a Ohio rusted piece of crap with over a 100,000 miles that could have the same thing happen. Drive it every day.

I had a 02 with the 4.0, put 350 thousand on it before the frame broke. Didn't burn a drop of oil with 5000mi oil changes. Found a 2011 with a 4.0 last fall that had 20,000 on it, thats right 20,000. Could"t wait to get my hands on it. Very well could be the last truck I have to buy if it holds up like the last one. Wow
