You'll probably want 15+ joules for that much wire.

My 6 joule Zareba has a lightning strike arrestor box in front. If a strike makes it to my box that goes out. $39 to replace that protector box. It happened once in 22 years.

I know. I’m just saying that lightening can and often does jump across the arrestor and still fry the charger. But its better than those with the little internal fuse, they don’t hardly protect anything.

I have no experience with the little ZAREBA chargers only the 15 j ones and have good luck . We have had to replace the lightning box a few times . Ones atleast 15 years old and another is about ten . The third is new all will max out my 7000v tester . There are no steel post in the new fences im building and replace steel post in the existing fence when i have to maintain them . It will be a fine day when i no longer have any steel post in my electric fence

What are you changing to instead of steel posts?

Take a picture of your fence so we can see...if you could

I'll second that. I'm wanting to add some electric fence as back up to some questionable old fence and add some hair sheep.

I can buy 36'long 1.25" fiberglass sucker rods for $13 apiece each one will make 9 4 footers or 7 5 footer or 6 6footers . They cut very easy with a chop saw and drill very easy with a 1/8" drill bit . They are way more rigid than a steel T post allowing bends in the fence . I can build a half mile of high tensile 28" high using 44 4' post for $63.50 post cost no insulators necessary . Then if I add sheep and goats later it will only cost the wire and time to drill holes for tie wires to add two more strands . I have several hundred installed on two and three wire fence ,many for almost two years without one single deer knock down . The first place I used them was on a stretch of fence that we replaced insulators on daily because of deer . Imagine how easy an electric fence would be to maintain if there were no steel T post for it to ground out on and no insulators to break .

That M670 Just needs a tire ,a brake job and a tune up . Its part of a long list of projects I inherited from dad . To good to junk but needs some time . . There's a styled A JOHN DEERE right next to it .There's probably 25 old tractors around from unstyled G s to hd11 bulldozers ,cases , John Deere s ,allis Chalmers, moline ,Oliver, massey ferguson and a ford .

Around here any of the folks that handle oil field fence supplies have the fiberglass sucker rod .another option that is cheaper than a steel post and insulators is Timeless fence post . They are a plastic T post uv treated twenty year warranty. I believe they are made in Kentucky

All of ours comes out of surpluss yards in Oklahoma ,Texas and Kansas. There are quite a few guys around here that ship it in here and build custom Corrales out of stem pipe and steel sucker rod . The amish and Mennonite carry alot of that stuff

I see the timeless Tposts run the wire through holes, so not user friendly on existing High tensile fence.
They should use a metal clip wire connector.

Bigfoot, are your line posts in the ground or on top of?

18" deep, driven with a post driver . I would tie my post to the wire even if pre drilled . I drill the sucker rods and tie with galvanized tie wire .it takes about an hour and a half to drill and tie a half mile fence

Yes but not as dumb as building an electric fence with steel post ,and I've built plenty of them .never again . Once you build one with fiberglass or plastic post you will want them all non conductive. It makes electric fence low maintenance
