It's a user trap. The montys had the best pan set up of their time and is carried on today in the montanas, wolf creek and victors badged as montgomerys. Their levers though were the weak point being of a low lever design making for less holding strength compared to the contemporary northwoods high lever design. Late model montys went to a high lever design.

Another issue was the jaw tips were often quite short and prone to popping out of the frame if given a hard pull. The fix was to spot weld a bubble on the tip or give them a whack with a hammer to bend them up as your's looks to have been done.

It would be a 1 1/2. Montgomery didn’t make a 1 3/4.

# 2 Montys had the button that had a threaded post under to keep the pan from getting caught. Down side was if a rock got inline under it would keep it from firing.

About the only thing I liked about that threaded post was being able to set the trap with my middle finger from underneath as I depressed the levers. Otherwise it was a PIA.

Looks like a high lever #2 model to me.
I toured their facility in the 70s, way cool fun.

If you look into Taos helper springs, the wider spring pin is for the high lever, narrower for low lever.
I sold my 2s when the hype started, twice lol.
