My wife has no ins but our doc's office has self pay. you have to tell them when you arrive and you pay before you back to see the doc. Basically they charge you what they will get from a ins comp, a office visit is 60.00. You might ask if they do that in the future.

What really chapped my arse was my wife went to the pharmacy the other day to feel a prescription, and we have good insurance on me and the wife and our 3 children. The lady tells my wife that if she uses her insurance she has a $40 copay, and if she filed without insurance it was only $18

A few years ago I made the last payment on our last kid. So I thought. Got a bill in the mail for more money. I called them up and asked about it. I was told, oops our bad we should not have sent you that bill. How many times do they do that and take the money? Now I wonder how many times I was double billed. Any more they can have $10 a month. Plus the phone calls to keep them honest.

Fight it, and if that is what you owe send them 10-20 a month.

I didn't mind paying in full since we had insurance. But realize that they double dip. Question every bill. Ask questions. I will bet some of the charges go away. If your insurance caps something, they may try to get it out of you. If they send you a bill and you pay it then they win. If you question it they will say sorry our bad.

Since you do no hay insurance I would look into the cash option. It should be be way less than the bill. Others have given good info on this.

Them doctors are so rich and just to google your symptoms when they walk out of the room like one of the posters said. Heck seems easy enough way to get paid in pure gold, I don't know why everyone doesn't become a doctor.

I donn't know, maybe it is the 10 years or so of learning, and the 500K+ bill at the end?

Thank goodness for Obama care. (Sarcastic) . I cover myself and my 8 year old daughter. 7 years ago my premium with blue Cross blue shield was 379 a month. Now I pay $1379 per month. Just a FYI, I haven't been to a doctor since I cut my finger off working on buzzards yellow submarine.

This is my situation. Costs of my insurance sky-rocketed, I got dropped by insurance company after insurance company, as companies decided they no-longer provided coverage in my area. Each time I switched companies, my monthly payment went up, my premium went up, and my coverage went down. When I caught a pretty serious skin infection on my finger, earlier this year, my wife wanted to call the Dr and set up an appointment, take me to the ER, etc. I went to the local clinic, there about 5 min, went directly to pharmacy on the way home, picked up ointment, paid cash for it all. The clinic was gonna run my insurance, but the costs to me was $60 more if the insurance company wouldn't cover the visit. Said they'd take $80 if I paid now. I said I'll give ya $60 cash, no way the receptionist (wife of DR) said. Ok, I said, I'll write you a check. "Sixty dollars in cash will be fine", she said. whistle

I trap for fun. I skin 'em for the money!

Costs are insane. Have you paid for a non-generic rx without insurance? Some of the rx costs make it much cheaper to take the rx to get filled in Mexico or canada. We used to go to Juarez when I was little to fill rx's once in a while. While there we would also get a huge bottle of penicillin.

obama care was intentionally designed to break down the United States health care system, so that socialized medicine would be instituted. I think we will go to a socialized medical system in the US soon.

I don't know whether the problems started before Obama, but that is when they started for me. I payed about $150 a month for insurance for years. Once Obamacare went into effect, I not only lost my insurance, but also 40 hours of work a month. I've not been able to afford insurance since.

im not sure who is the biggest thief in that pile! drs, ins, or politicians! But id bet my last breath all the above get a cut! Id love to know obamas cut for declaring health issurance mandatory! Like the ins industry didn't have enough power. I agree yote trapper health insurance is bad enough! Have a really bad health issue and see who lines up to take a stab at you! My hospital bills were astronomical! Apparently the only one that can go thru the surgery I did and not loose every thing was dick channey!

I've got a great doctor who'll be retiring sooner than he had planned . Reason ? He's tired of feeling like he works directly for the insurance companies. They dictate his recommendations and he has to sign a contract with each and every program he has to deal with.

We have a direct primary care membership . $50 each a month for me and my wife . unlimited doctor visits, test ,and medicine at cost .the actual cost of most bloodwork, and medicine is so low that it would blow your mind . my first initial blood screenings where less than $20 . my a1c was $3.95 my wifes thyroid level was $6 .
my visits last a half hour or longer with my doctor I have her cell phone # that SHE answers ,she sends me text telling me my medicine should be running out soon . I recommend this to anyone I could brag on the service for hours but break time is over

Direct Primary Care is a business model that has been around since 2009 where patients pay a monthly fee for a membership with the doctors office . they do not accept Medicare or insurance they provide unlimited doctor visits . test and medicine are at cost . If they send you to a specialist they will help negotiate that visit or service at cost . (ie)She said she could arrange an in home sleep study for $200 . If I have a question I just send her a text and she answers it most times in less than a hour . I've been a member with this doctor for about six months and so far it has saved me a ton of money . It's like going to the doctor back in the fifties the office consist of a receptionist a nurse and the doctor my first visit she spent an hour with me getting to know me and my wife and my symptoms . so far I've been very impressed .
Go to YouTube search Direct Primary Care and watch one of Josh Umbeher's videos it's quite eye opening to realize how cheap medicine and medical services can be if you cut out the insurance companies . Now Im going to put on my conspiracy theory hat and on say One of the primary functions of the ACA was to squash this business model because it cuts the insurance companies out of a huge portion of the system.
