So, what do you like for water traps, USMC47? I use half rustoleum and half acetone for my water traps and dp’s.

So, what do you like for water traps, USMC47? ALL water traps get a mix of about 40-45% rusty metal primer and 55-60% mineral spirits. 50/50 works also for simplicity sake but it makes the coating a slight bit too thick. If I do 40/60 It's usually right for traps that have already been done. If not, sometimes they need 2 coats. 2 thin is better than one thick. I've been painting my water traps for near 10 years I'm guessing. They last 2 or 3 years before needing more depending on use. Like dye, the traps take the paint best if already having a light rust.

Never understood the allure to a black trap. Nothing stands out more than solid black. Not so bad down south, lots of muddy water around here. But i see your point, thats why i use brown dip

I have traps hanging that are logwood dyed, and not a bit of rust on them, and they are unwaxed. Some have been hanging for years. Logwood dye isn't so much a dye as it is a rust preventative caused by the chemical reaction between the dye and the slightly rusted trap. It just happens to be black, and somewhat rust proof when you are done with it.
Dye is a misnomer for the thing that actually happens here.

If you can see my trap at a set then it is on a critters foot and at the point it could be hot pink and not bother me.
Wish I had more time to trap....

Maybe you have super dye...I've had them rust by morning after being dyed. I'll argue wax is a much better rust preventer...and nothing blends in like a light rust colored trap that's waxed. Guys like shiny trucks and shiny traps... And why guys post pics of their traps. I don't get it . But to each his own.
