Sur Fin Chemical has a product called Galvano Black. I was thinking of giving it a try on some new traps.
Was just wondering if anyone tried it on traps. It sounds like a good product. And it would save a little time on trap prep. If it is a lasting finish.

Looks like it is only for galvanized steel or zinc surfaces. It is $103 per gallon and requires a sealing lacquer for metal over the patina.

If you already have galvanized or zinc coating, you have rust protection. Color does not matter for land traps.

I always wondered why "hot blue" wouldnt work? Like they do gun barrels.
Some people will put mustard on carbon steel to give it a patina

For years I have rust blued new traps by placing them in an old cooler with a little muratic acid they come out the nicest deep blue color and then waxing them in my experience it lasts as long as any other treatment which is to say untill the first coon catch

If it was properly waxed i might. Gun has no bluing inside the barrel.
Anyway it was just a thought.

I've used nearly every method invented. I had always gone back to dye and wax. Doubt I'll ever change again.

Not including water traps.

I walnut dye and wax as well. The idea got stuck in my head when I looked at the CVA nitrate rust proofing.
But that is for stainless steel.
After much thought, I've decided that it is probably a good way to taint a pot of wax. And I don't need to do that again. But if someone made a stainless trap, well that would be a horse of a different color. Lol

Never understood the allure to a black trap. Nothing stands out more than solid black.

It's just tradition to dye my traps black. It all started when I read Herb Lennon's booklet.
Sometimes I over think things.
