I have a very similar trap also in the 1 1/2 size that I found in a box of traps the other night and have the same question?? I am guessing the pan has been replaced as it is a zero size and the chain is a flat link chain but it is wired to swivel, the rest of the trap appears to be original and the same as above?? Thanks Mike

Just when you think you've figured things out!!? I think it was done at the factory now when and where? According to Gerstell, page 196"by the end of the year many Hawley&Norton,Victor, and Oneida Jump traps were made with the so-called humped cross patented the year before" 1908

Well Tom, you are entitled to think whatever you choose but the answer from snakecollector is as authoritative as possible to obtain and I would suggest you carefully consider it. As far as when and where, all the components of your trap and of the second trap pictured were made by Oneida Community and likely between 1900 and 1925.

Tom, The cross may not have been replaced, O.C. did make Hawley & Norton traps with the humped cross. The May 28,'07 patent date is for the humped cross pan attachment. If the cross is original, then just the pan was replaced. mtnative, your trap has a replaced pan as well. Trappers fixed traps to make them work. Lots of repairs and modifications.
Jim, Thank you for the words of confidants.
