I had a second hand dog that had been bark collared and it was 5-6 years after I got her that she barked the first time for any reason, she would just whimper when she wanted to bark, no matter what the reason. I'd not do that to any dog. I have a shock collar a guy let me use it's still sitting on the counter just can't bring myself to use it!

My lab can’t wait to put on her ecollar because she knows it’s time to go to work. If she thinks there’s a chance we’re headed to train she runs to the back door and sits, waiting for the collar. Used properly, and fairly, a collar is just another forcing implement. It’s no different than a pinch collar or a heeling stick. I rarely need the collar these days but we never train without it.

On the other hand, YOU don't know what SHE's barking AT. Could be another dog over the ridge or down the street or a bold Rabbit in the yard, or an intruder sniffing around for something to steal. I always check it out with a high power spotlight, (under $15 @ Harbor Freight) in one hand and a pistol in the other, and have seen treed Coons, Rabbits, feral Cats and a few times members of the neighborhood African community. My neighbors tell me when they hear my hounds go off, they will take a look too, and it's always something.
If they're barking at nothing I can find, I will yell at them to "Shut up Daisy" And the next thing they hear is me coming out to whack them. Do this when they are young and it will stick.

x2 on bark collar for a pet. I missed the part about it being a house dg. never heard of a blue tick in the house before

My dogs are noisy too. The more they aren’t worked, the worse they get. I have a cur/plott and a cur/jackdale and one of their pups. They only associate the collar with a good time. Taking them out in the off season to call or more often work up badgers will settle them down for a while so I gotta think exercise is key. If they’re completely unhinged, usually the pup and the plott, they get crated until they settle down. Usually only takes about 10 minutes. Some dogs are nutty by nature. I’d try to temper anything you do with him regarding behavior with keeping in mind what he is. He’s hardwired to stir s__t up. That’s the beauty of your tick. Put him to work.

get up and spray her with a water hose. don't use a no bark collar unless you want to hunt her with no collar of any kind not even your name and phone # on it. dog is not likely to quit barking on its own Disagree on the no-bark collar. I know countless hound men that use them successfully on some very good hounds.

Nothing quite like a dog yappin all night long.... It all comes down to 'best interest'. If you make the dg understand its in its best interest to listen to what you say then its all good.

I've trained my last 4 dogs not to bark with those lemon squeeze bulbs. Do you just squirt them with it when they bark? In the mouth immediatly upon barking. In my opinion, dogs should be quite untill it's go time. I'd rather listen to Obama speak than a dog unnessisaraly bark.
swampgas chili and schmidt beer makes for a deadly combo

Here is a question, when is it ok for the dog to bark? Do you want him to bark when someone comes to the door? Never ever bark in the house? In order to get what you want you need to have clear goals and teach them to your dog.
If I was doing this I would use recorded sounds that could be played when I chose. This would allow for timely teaching and eventually corrections. I would start by teaching the dog simply using the no command and a tap on the muzzle. After the dog knows the drill, introduce the ecollar at a low stim level reinforcing with a nick and a NO. If you want the dog to bark when the bell is rung or he hears strange noises, encourage that and give him some good boys. In a few weeks time he’ll ignore that rooster and raise $&// when someone comes to the door. Give him a chance to learn before using punishment. You’ll end up with a dog that’s your buddy but behaves as expected. I encourage her to bark at things like people in the yard, sonwonf knocking on the door etc, I just don't want her and the rooster yelling at each other all day every day

Trapping is easy you say? You try getting your target animal to step in a 3 inch area of its whole territory.

Which tells me a bark collar probably isn’t the right tool to fix the problem. The first time someone comes to the door and the dog gets nicked for barking you have now discouraged that behavior.

Both hands around the muzzle for 2 seconds and yell shut up...only do that when their barking/ howling for no reason and only shut the muzzle quickly then let go. ^^This is what works well for me.
