I’m VERY carful when I get past the shoulders. Their jugular vain is just under the skin. I have some thoughts on whey they don’t bleed as bad on me. PM me if you would like to know.

Use the freaking hammer and you don't have to worry about nicking arteries or veins.

It takes longer to open one up and get past the tail than it does to skin it. I pull them apart with an electric hoist. 15 minutes and I take my time.

Tried skinning a mostly frozen one last night. Let's just say that I was up late and had to stop at the head which was still completely frozen. I was hoping to get it done last night so I would not have to mess with it today. I have a skinning machine but it is in the cold garage where I have a vehicle in storage which I would have to move so thought I could get it done in my warm basement......bad decision.
I'm just happy to be here! Today I'm as young as I'll ever be and and older than I've ever been before!

Use the freaking hammer and you don't have to worry about nicking arteries or veins. Use that hammer like your driving a 2' metal stake into semi-frozen ground and you only have 3 seconds to do it!

Use the freaking hammer and you don't have to worry about nicking arteries or veins. What is this hammer trick? He has this magic hammer that says "Thor" on it. Not sure just how it works.

Hammer trick: When u get midway down the body, and you've been pullin like ten elephants in a tug-o-war contest, and cant go farther; reach up inside the fur between those front legs and grab a handful of the skin close to where the pelt and body meet and pull out and down. Take that ball peen hammer and start hitting where the fur and pelt meet. Repeat process around the shoulders. I have yet to tear a pelt and i whack it pretty hard.

I just finished skinning, fleshing, and boarding a coyote I caught 2 days ago. I timed myself with a stopwatch. It took me 24 mins to skin. It took me 25 mins to flesh. It took me 9 mins to board.
It’s boarded fur side in right now, and I’ll flip it fur out this evening before I go to bed. That will prob take me 15 mins.

The older you get the longer it takes, skinning machine or not. Great, if this is the case you'll be able to time me with a calendar.....
