I got my first request for a military discount yesterday. Kinda caught me by surprise.

Personally I never ask for a military discount on anything but usually take advantage of the veterans day specials. I get upset with the wife when she asks for it on my behalf because she knows I won't ask for it.

But what do you guys do, knock 10% off or something?

I do 10% for military discounts and do the little things for free for Marines.

Pesky, our Govenor is having a heck of a time getting mining started again in Wisconsin. If he needs you, can I put you down as guest speaker? ( Of course, we only have gold, silver, and iron, so maybe it ain't worth it )

We'll you could have knocked us both over with a feather. The cashier pulls 4 bucks out of her apron and throws it in the till. I'm sure she was the most elderly cashier in the place. I'm really beginning to love old people. The customer was still stammering about how he was going to pay her back as he left the store.

Old folks usually have much better manners and attitudes than your average teeny. The few times I've been bowled over by good service at fast food places were almost always 50+ y.o. employees.

I would like to thank the author of the recent safety article in WCT, for taking the time to visit my team to discuss his recent fall. You can tell a guy is committed to the business when he writes an article AND visits a reader! Thanks Jack!

Dave, I mentioned this to anyone who would listen. The way Jack describes his fall and his memories of what took place next, really hit home. Everything he said about his erased memory was exactly the way it happened to me. I thought Jack's column was absolutely mesmerizing. ( Of course, Jack didn't land on his head; which explains why he is so articulate and I'm still wandering around in a fog )

The thing about safety...it is a thankless job because you never know if you prevented an injury. My guess - he saved many injuries with that article.

That would be fun, if I had that talent. If I had a wish...it would be to play music.

Here is a public service video that we put together to educate kids about bats. It includes a discussion about the importance of not handling wild animals.

Just did a nine skunk removal and exclusion for a local church, in exchange for a cup of coffee. I do several free or nearly no cost jobs a year for similar folks.
I've "given back" to my community in some sort since 1978. First as a volunteer for search and rescue, then a law enforcement career and now as a volunteer in the local fire/EMS/rescue service. Also spent 4 years as an elected official that paid nothing.

I have been a volunteer fireman for 28 years. I trap all the village parks for moles each spring and take care of any wild animals issues that come up. I live in a small village.
I also trap mole at two of our local churches.

I give as often as I can to the Wounded Warriors fund. My heart goes out to our wounded vets.

You could do discount jobs like my doctor bills medicare. Bill very high prices, medicare pays only so much which he only wanted in the first place, the balance is listed as a business loss on his taxes. I did a mole job for a lady several months ago and didn't charge her. Told her I would take my payment in a couple of cookies she was baking. From that free job I got two large cattle ranches where I trap year round whenever I want to on a basis of so much per gopher. This month I have trapped 237 gophers off those two ranches. Acts of kindness has a way of returning 10 fold.
