Thats the thrower..you place the spear in the groove and notch it into the back, and have your hand around the other end with the hole..your index finger goes through the hole and hold the spear with your fingers and throw into a high arc and it comes down on top of the seals head and detaches the head..its not to kill it but just so you can follow the spear on the surface,as he drags it around when its underwater while you get close enough to harpoon it and then shoot.
the boys here are suprisingly accurate with them. All that to kill a seal! We just .... oh never mind.

OH MAN I MISS UQUQ! Hard to get good seal oil in the interior. They don't like people bringing it on planes since that one jar broke on the jet a couple years ago...I think it was that "heated to render" southeast stuff, good SW stuff doesn't stink like whatever the hazmat team was called in for...but I might not remember the whole story correctly.
Rumors of my assimilation have been greatly exaggerated.

First frost a couple of days ago. Bugs are thinning out and the leaves are starting to drop... got our termination dust yesterday. Silvers in the rivers are getting darker, dollies are getting spawning colors and the deer are getting fat. Lit the wood stove last night for the first time since late April. Love this time of year!
