I have never seen a door that opens with a heat register in the middle of the opening.

wool carpet and backing of synthetic material = carpet beetles
you can see some of the other area fiber is missing

Its the condensation from the air vent that is not fitted to the duct at the floor. It's coming out under the carpet. The house needs a humidifier and tighten up the fitment of the vent cover.

It's not wool, wool gives off an odor when wet, it's either sun damage or moisture like Clayton said I think
