I've seen lots of people asking how to build conduit stakes, so I took a second and made a picture, hopefully explaining in enough detail how they are set up. Comment and pass it on. Should this be archived?

One more thing. The only time these stakes don't work REALLY well is in VERY VERY VERY frozen ground. I don't have a very heavy hammer right now, and so with a light hammer it takes a LOT of pounding due to the large diameter of the stake. But once they are in, they ain't coming out. I can remove these stakes with a pry bar, and they are always reusable. Just clean out the dirt, and keep movin.

For muddy banks i make mine 4 inches long and 20 inches deep they will hold. I use them on drowning rigs. Instead of a wood or rebar stake just attach anchor to drowner cable. Set and go!

Yeah I forgot to say that I cut the conduit piece 3 inches long. 4 inches would be GREAT in muddy river bottoms, heck you could go 5 inches if you wanted! Conduit is very cheap, and easy to find. I always cut them at an angle, maybe I'm over doing it, but it doesn't take any more work. Cut at a 45* angle, rotate pipe 1/2 turn cut....repeat!

yep. Just had a few people ask me how I did it, and seems like they are brought up a lot on here. So I figured I would do my free service for the day and draw up a pic

You can use your driver to make a pilot hole in frozen ground if the frost isn't too deep.If there is too much frost, I have been using a cordless hammer drill and a masonary bit.

Mine always seem to stick on the driving rod. Any Suggestions?

Good idea floyd, yeah it's a pain unless you carry a very heavy hammer.
Big cat, on my driver the stake end is turned down a fraction of an inch, so that the stake can actually move a little side to side while on the driver. I think this helps some. I've never really had that problem though. Make sure the angled piece on your driver is nice and smooth on the bottom edge; eliminate any sort of burr that might adhere to the anchor while driving. I guess I have had a couple that felt like they were stuck as I started to pull the driver out, but seems like if ya just give it a short twist both directions it breaks the anchor loose.
I'll try to get a pic up here, but I'm headed out, goin back to school, so no promises.

bigcat - reverse the way you put the stake on the driver - in other words do not put the stake 45 on the driver at the 45 so they match up on the driver - put them on so it looks wrong and they dont match up and the gap will give some friction to pull against when you try to set the anchor
