the first coon i put up and it would be nice to get some coments. i put 2 holes in it while skinning but that was it. it fleshed mega easy compared to beaver, is that right? the boarding part was easy as i learned from you guys how to do that right

Looks good, Ya might have cut the front legs off a little short. Not bad at all for a first time. Coon are much easier to flesh than beavers. Keep up the good work.

I worked in a fur duyers place I would rather scrap a hundred coon then 10 beaver any day. The coon looks real good for your first one. Keep up the good work.

Nice work! It's better to learn how to do it right while the coon are low in price, than when they are big money. Looks good to me.

The scraping job is fair at best. The stretching job is nice. I see to much small areas with a little fat left on the hide. For your first coon, it looks ok, but you need to get better at getting the fat off.
Sorry if I hurt your feelings, but I call them like I see them and on the puter it looks to have lots of little fat islands on the hide.

I make my window a little bigger. Looks like a nice careful job though. It's tough to catch all the fat, but worth the extra effort.

I'm with you don, I rushed through a coon toward the end the other night and had a couple of fat deposits left on the dang thing! Another reason to make sure you do not have to hurry when finishing fur..

I tend to agree with Don. However, put a fan on the hide and I suspect the fat will dry off. Unless I'm not seeing somethig I really dont see any thick deposits of fat that will burn the leather. For your first coon you did well. Take the advise of those like Don.

I also clean skin beaver, why would you not do it , putting up beaver is more fun than a coon, you did a good job on the coon, you can stiil get the fat off .

50 + years of trapping & some fur buying and i still know nothing.

The fat you left on is easy to scrap off so just look the coon over more and you will have that part down well. I may suggest that you start your grizzle removal closer to the ears of the coon instead of about 1-2 inches down the pelt. That will take the sharp edge of your knife and some care. Other than that it looks very good. Sure is better than my first one.

looks fine. time will tell. once the hide is dry it will be real easy to see where there is extra fat if there is any. i trim my leg holes flush then pull the skin together and staple (pin). fha does not want long legs. they could catch when handling and tear.

Thanks for posting this. A picture is sure better than any lengthy articles on how to put up fur. As far as clean skinning a beaver, that might be something worth learning. I have not had a problem fleshing any this year on the beam, but I caught an old, fat bugger yesterday and I just about dislocated my shoulders scraping all the fat and gristle off that ole boy.

A few more words to help you out. Your beaver are to pointed and you need more nails in them. About ever one inch or a bit closer.Looks like I see fat around the leg holes on your beaver also. All the fat and gristle must come off of your pelts.

Conibers can cause the skin to look red. I see lots of coniber coons that have a bit of red leather on them.

I was wonder that myself, thought maybe the red was grizzle.
