What is the best size of washer or nut to use on 1/2 rebar stakes for the top? I have about 200 I need to get setup. Also would JB weld work for connecting the washer or nuts to the rebar or am I going to have to weld these.
thanks
kevin

Never tried this, but been told if you get the right size nut and hammer it on, it won't come off. I think Rags had a post about it once.

Yup
Weld the top.
Otherwise you'll feel kinda silly once you hit the washer with a hammer and it falls off. Don't ask me how do I know.

I liked to use nuts on top of my stakes, that way you could put a wrench or pliers on them to turn them when pulling them, made it a lot easier to pull them.

Reword your question to read....When using stakes for??? how long should they be.

Basically what are you trapping

um, if you are targetting all with the same set, i would use at least 2 footers, id go with berkies, or pogos though, cheeper and simpler

Depending on soil type 18-24 in cross staked rebar but like stated disposibles are good too. I use both more disposibles then rebar anymore.

creektrapper how do you get a 9/16 nut to strecth around a 1/2 bar? I use a 3/4" nut,and it the rebars not cut clean have to hammer them on. At least up north a nut is measured by the outside width. Is this different down south? lol, just messin'with ya!

when you buy nuts out of the bulk bins they are labled by the inside diameter .

ashland ohio, forget the jb weld and do it right, you won't regret it that way. As stated above it depends on you soil composition and compaction for stake length. I keep a variety of lengths on hand from 15" for hard, untilled dirt to 36" for soft, marshy, or sandy soil. After 36" I use different methods to anchor or drag a trap. Disposables also work great,I'm just to old-school and already setup to switch all at once.

I use washers, they are alot cheaper than nuts. I weld them on with 6011.
