I don't really think that MacArthur deserved the MOH. I'm not seeing it. I believe it was a political award and is a slap in the face to those that earned it. What say you? Compared to other recipients of the medal I would say he did not deserve it. I am absolutely certain he did not deserve the DFC he was given. I know hundreds of guys who deserved that more than MacArthur did

To bad you can;t ask Admiral Nimitz or President Truman Nimitz, Halsey, Spruance, McCain; Admirals all who held MacArthur in contempt. He was described as an insubordinate, arrogant, pompous arse by those who knew & worked with him and those were the good things they had to say about Douglas. His only redeeming claim to fame was his excellent administration of the occupation of Japan after their surrender due to his understanding of Japanese culture. w

Absolutely not, many military scholars agree that, the US could have bypassed the Philippines like Admiral Nimitz wanted to. But, MacArthur need to orchestrate his staged , “I have returned”, photo opp, so he could blow pipe smoke on the beaches of Leyte. My father fought at the Leyte Gulf landing and in reality it all could have been avoided. I’m glad Truman fired him.

I think Truman did the right thing by relieving MacArthur. I think most of his troops would have been thrilled to "Relieve themselves ON Dug Out Doug"!

He was told repeatedly that the island didn’t matter but went anyway. Lots of marines could have came home instead of dying on that rock. I think he was a decent Admiral but that was a costly mistake.

Well he was nominated for the Medal of Honor 3 times, earned two purple hearts, I think 6 silver stars, a couple of bronze stars, and numerous other awards. He served in 4 campaigns WW 1, Mexico, WW 2 and the Korean war. If Truman would have listened to him we wouldn't have the mess we have now with China or Korea. I doubt he could give a hoot about the Medals and as far as leaving the Philippines, how many Generals served on front lines when they were falling and were taken as a POW, That would have be a propaganda and strategic win for the Japs. As a matter of fact he wanted to stay and Roosevelt ordered him out.

He was an officer above 0-6, so just being that probably got him 3/4 of the medals and ribbons he wore, very similar to what happens today, they sit in a cushy office while their troops bust butt yet get the award.
