I usually put my traps on a drowner, but I was considering setting up a few for a long chain. My question is Will MB high-quality number two machine chain be sufficient.

#2 is fine assuming you intend to hold them live. If you want to druen em with that setup, add a heavier chain or window weight or railroad plate to the first foot or chain.

Mt long chains have chain drowner attached so I can an set em up to drown if needed.

Just like any drowning rig, they work better with a back foot catch. If you are a front foot type, I would stick to drowning them.
