I guess I just need to get this off my chest. I trapped pretty hard for a part-timer last season, shipped my 23 otters back in March to a place I like to sell to in the midwest and got a $25 average. I was shocked! I should have sold to the local guy for $30 in the round. I was expecting in the 60s or $70s stretched and dried. My put up has always been pretty good. A few years ago I got over $100 for some-I forget what the avg was. I shipped 20 beavers and got a $19 average so that was nice but all these critters are some work. I don't really trap for the money but the money helps me justify getting out early before work for 3 months out of the year and spending hours in the fur shed when I get home. I want more for my fur...I'm giving it away for that price. I've seen where some guys down here trap and sell otters live and I'm gonna look into that. I can just trap nutria for the tails and that's probably the most efficient thing to do. I came across a thread on La otters from a couple years ago and lots of you guys really stacked them up.

There. That's it. Got it off my chest.

I sold my cats to Ronnie Lewing, he makes rounds here in tx but he lives in north la. There was a guy ahead of me that had I think 14 otters, green. I believe he avg. 60 for them. Might try to look Ronnie up next time.

We’re most late caught? I got $50 & 48usd for winter ones like this. A late caught badly singed got $30usd. All at FHA.
This one was fresh on the board.

otter prices have been disappointing for quite a while. Really if you want to make money with em, you need to find alternative markets for them or get paid to catch em.

Otter seem to follow mink prices I feel. But I did do better this year over last at FHA with an average of $40.

I sell a few to Native Americans for their ceremonial dance costumes. I have to get them tanned but that's not a big deal and is just added in to the final cost.

Otters like that unprime one and small one in your pic will drop that overall average substantially.

$19 avg on put up southern beaver is on the low side also.

It's a looonngg way from LA to WA or OR.

And shipping is costly.

Some probably were late caught, not all but in the past I got pretty good prices even for February ones. Thanks for the input.

Beaver are cost prohibitive for shipping, but if you can double your money on otter by shipping to the right place that is a no brainer. BTW, for comparative reasons I don't think many southern otters were hitting $60 this year or in the last several, but you have a right to be upset at the $25. A question: When you ship don't you have a price already established with your buyer? I would never ship a durn thing without having at least a very good idea what he/she was going to pay and then with the right to have them shipped back if price not right.
