Been cleaning out a barn and unearthed several dozen older coke bottles. Wondering if anyone has a clue of rough value and best way/place to sell them. Have quite a few of the ones in the group picture. Only have one like in the pic by itself. [Linked Image]

When I was a kid, I used to dig old coke and other bottles, plus some other artifacts, from two old dumps the woods across the street from our home. I had a few hundred bottles from the 1880s to the 1950s. I think I have some boxes of bottles in my barn. Many of the coke and other pop bottles had dates and at one time, I organized them into a collection.

I liked the blue bottles best, such as the Philips Milk of Magnesia, Vicks and fancy perfume bottles. I had a lot of old medicine bottles.

I had a bunch of old license plates I found too. Most were pretty rusted up.

Now I collect mostly old axes, hatchets and cleavers, plus some other interesting old tools. I bought a bunch at auction today.

I have a couple milk crates of old bottles dug up in the bay while clamming, have a bunch of the green 7 oz. coke bottles and a wood box they came in.
I've tried several times to get a value, antique places low ball you, offering a dollar to "take them off your hands"... Don't know if prices got better but I doubt it.

KeithC, I would like to see what you got today. It's always interesting to see what you get at auctions.

I got myself a seniors' GPS.
Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination,
it tells me why I wanted to go there.

You really need someone with some expertise to check out the bottle in the first pic. The style I believe is called a Hutchinson or a ‘Hutch’. If that is what you have, you may be sitting on several thousand dollars. Google ‘Coke Hutch’ and see how what you have compares.

Thanks. I’m trying to see what I have. I’ve googled some and that has helped a little. Asking prices are all over the place and you mostly see asking prices, not sold prices. These are part of my dad’s estate so definitely getting sold.

I thought the one might be a Hutchinson but having trouble verifying that.

On Ebay, on the left side of the screen, the third button from the bottom is "Sold Items". If you click it will show items with their sold prices. It's an incredibly valuable tool for finding out what a used item is worth. I use it a lot. Averaging the price of items like yours gives you a good idea of its worth.

Back in the day, there was a Lady in town that would give you $50.00 for a little green bottle that was made in Caliente, NV

Yes if you have time I would also be interested in your items that you purchased today There was a prominent 3 generation family that was in the auctioneer business They at one time where the number one auctioneer i the local area Over the years of holding many many many farm auctions they would at times buy old horse drawn farm tools horse harnesses gear antique butchering tools and old tools that where used in building Often as these items where no longer in use there was little interest from anyone to buy such items . And they would end up on a no sale pile One of the auctioneers was a History Teacher for the school district he lived in So he was a school teacher., a farmer, and an auctioneer . When he retired from teaching he continued to be involved in the farm sales auctioneer business By that time he had acquired a sizeable number of NO SALE items that he had been holding on to Because he had a fascination with all the old time tools and early farm equipment and wagons and horse and buggys and old farm tools etc he and his brother built a museum to enable them to display the collection they had It was a private building but they had many connections to local organizations and they would make it open to those groups that wanted to see the items that where there As is always the case people age and pass away and them personal items are now in the has of new owners Well that is soon to happen with this families museum collection of old antiques and old time items In June of 2024 there will be a public auction of the items that this man and his family business partners The owner now deceased was someone I had known for 55 years and he had been living for nearly 90 years so he knew most of my relatives from the early 1930's And as a result I had a couple of items that I donated to him to place in his museum He gave me a guided one on one tour dozen years ago IT IS A THING TO BEHOLD If I can find my pictures i will make a post later

You know you may be right, I'll check next time they surface to see if there's a oz. mark, I always thought they were 7 oz.

The Hutchinson bottle refers to the stopper that was attached by a wire closure They where mostly from the 1880's to 1890's Most of them havesoon value But it would generally be in the 20 dollar range If you are looking for a quick answer check out treasurenet.com and post a few pictures of what you are looking for some idea of what you have Post a few pictures under the Bottles and Glass forum or you could also try WHAT IS IT WORTH forum I would try the bottles and glass forum The people that are on that one are real into old bottles and will be as helpful as anyone you might find If that does not work I may be able to help you with some prices or value of what you have Keep in mind some of the bottles you see are modern day reproductions of old bottles BE CARFUL when you are considering old bottles and pottery items

It's odd that you found these all together yet each one is different. I suspect it is from a collection not just random tossed bottles. Can you post a picture of the bottom of the hutch soda? The other straight side cokes are about $100 each. The Amber colored one about $150.

I am an old time bottle digger and I have numerous examples of bottles from the same company that have various types of closures and embossing on the m One company with embossing on them has 7 different styles and types of closures and sizes variations An other one has I think 5 and 4 or 4 and 3 And out of over a 100 bottles I have about 5 total where purchased My collection is my bottles that I dug myself .

Thanks everyone for all the advice. After looking around it looks like the bottles in the group picture are real and worth about 75 to 100 each. The single bottle is a reproduction of a Hutchinson type bottle made in 1997 by Coca Cola. Not worthless but nowhere near the value of the real thing. After cleaning it up some and looking in good lighting I could see the date on the bottom of the bottle.
