For anyone who has ever seen the movie Jeremiah Johnson (and probably everyone on this forum has), The 'Hawken' Robert Redford used in the movie that he got from Mad Jack was a production Thompson Center .50 cal Hawken. I saw the movie and went the next weekend and bought one of my own. Cost me $265. That was a lot of money for an 18 year old. They weren't period correct, the rifling was really too shallow for good round ball shooting and they kicked like a mule but I liked it. A real mountain man would shrug off the pain so why not me. Right? I had to shoot 90 grains or so. Anything less was for sissies. Thompson Center got a lot of folks interested in muzzleloaders.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Well there were several very nice old ones in like new shape at the shoot in Friendship Indiana last year. They were. Just more than I was wanting to spend on them for what they are and for when my old .22s fill the roll.
