I'm considering buying a hi-lift jack. I really don't need it for it's intended purpose. Rather, I need a T-post puller and I think it'll work well for that. And, they're about the same cost as a decent post puller.

Maybe it can also be used for pulling buckthorn.

Anyhow, looking for recommendations for cheaper jack and curious what other uses you've found for them.

how many T posts are you pulling

when you have a LOT to do the bucket on the tractor is the best , with someone to hook up the chain

one of those post grabbers would be great , we always just used a chain

also used the plow ram on the front of a pickup in the past

some how I was always the guy hooking the chain and walking and never the one on the tractor

Just make sure the guy on the tractor doesn't pull while you are still hooking the chain up. Dad almost lost a couple fingers that way.
I wasn't the one on the tractor.

I have an old-style bumper jack that I use for pulling cable stakes and fence posts if need be.

I admit to having abused a Hi-Lift jack on more than one occasion. However, life is not a Swiss Army knife. In most cases, you are much better off using a specific tool for a specific purpose. You don't use a pipe wrench to drive nails anymore than you use a hammer to remove a pipe. Use the Hi-Life to jack your truck up and get a good stake puller to pull the stakes.

We always called them a handyman jack. They can lift just about anything and they can break your face if you aren't careful with them.

I just used one to lift and level a 14x20 cabin.

I have no qualms using a hi-lift to pull out T-posts.

I have one of those and I have used It to pull re bar stakes. I made a slotted devise to go around the stake then slides under the washer.

Get a T post puller.
Those jacks are heavy. (You will be using 1 hand) Cause the other will be holding the chain to make sure it don't come unhooked. and carrying it from post to post . Also the down lever is tempermental.
Don't ask how I know
just

Down is down, but sometimes it is faster than you planned.

T-post puller works better on t-posts. We use a Hi-Lift jack on wood posts.

The high lift jack has a few clones that are a lot cheaper and work as well. Plenty of uses, can be used to jack almost anything out of the ground, pull fence tight, change tires and self rescue winch when stuck\, adjust frame/sheet metal after a wreck so you can drive it, etc.

You can use it to pull little trees from the ground.
