Maybe you can help, I have an old WW2 era bolo, I guess it's called, with no handle. It is supposedly from the Philippines, The tang is exactly like the tang on a file. Probably what it was made from.

Other than jamming a file handle on it, how were handles put on them? I wouldn't think a file type handle would last with swinging and chopping but I may be wrong. there's no holes for rivets, just that tang...

Fighting bolos were made that way..handle just jammed on. They were generally made like swords(kinda)...if u click my links u may see that type. The working bolos usually had water buffalo handles and rivets thru them .Hope that helps. Most bolos were made from leaf springs or railroad rails.
