Looks like dept of revenue had a hand in the questions. % sold in WI, % sold outside WI; expenses for trapping (gas, trapping supplies, etc); % sold to buyer, % sold at auction, % for own use. I don't mind helping DNR to determine harvest and animal population but this questionaire keeps getting less about those issues. Mine made it to file 13.

Is this survey just randomly sent our to some trappers? I've never heard of it before.

I fill mine out and no I did not get one this year, but got one last year. There are two ways to look at the questions regarding who one sold to, what state and what are or were your expenses. One is as some have indicated that there maybe an income tax concern with the sales. Two there could be some figures used to help creat some economic impact numbers on trapping which can help promote our industry. I justuse the figures from my schedule C to fill the form out.

Never got one but would deepsix anything that wants to know about my finances. DNR should be about the animals and populations. NOTHING ELSE!!!

I get one every time they send them out. And I fill them out. Question 6 Is the only one asking about your trapping expenses.
It reads.

Estimate your total trapping expenses for the past season. (traps lure gas license ect) Whats the big feaking deal? Just don't fill It out duh.
The rest of the questions are all trapping related. In fact so Is #6.

I used to fill out the MN DNR survey as well...until they used it against us years ago. Now it goes in the trash.

My "exact" expenses go to my tax guy. If the DNR is asking for it, I'd say that's a red flag.

I've worked for the Govt for 23 years. I trust drug dealers, rapists and even pedophiles more than I trust the govt.

Now that's not to say there aren't great great people working for the DNR. There are. Many I've worked with and highly respect.

Many years ago IL asked about feral cats then some legislator used that survey to introduce anti legislation based on misinformation gathered from that survey. We all know what damage feral cats can do to the environments they live in.

It seems what we catch is never really ours if they want to make a stink out of it as rules, permits, tags and licenses never seem to be enough to escape the never ending reds.
