Haven't done this for awhile and this i really don't know what it is.. Was doing some digging in garden changing things up. Decided to run the metal detector for a bit all metal mode, see what turns up. Mostly found nails couple clips off old clothes pins.
But I did turn up this old chunk of what feels like cast iron. Penny is in frame for size reference. My first thought before I washed dirt off was some kind of lock or stove part. After I washed I see there is a small amount of orange paint. Also can make out letter A on one side.
Knowing the history of this area. I'm wondering if it isn't something off Allis-Chalmers farm equipment? Almost reminds me some of a valve lifter? Maybe spring retainer??
Anyone got ideas. I don't know if Allis-Chalmers made castrators?? Could be.. LOL!

If there's a hole through the round part, it may be rusted solid, it's likely a hinge.

I grew up with Allis Chalmers and that doesn't ring a bell. Half looked like a battery clip or points or something but it appears to be solid.

Speaking of which do you remember that White17 was the last Homesteader in Alaska (U.S actually I think) and had an old Allis Chalmers C out in bush at that place that they plucked out of there with a chopper in the last decade or so and put in a museum somewhere b/c it was the last homestead. That's how I remember the story anyway. Its close. Orange tractor parts made me think of that I guess. Hope he is doing well.

That's just west of Beatrice, Nebraska. Seen it a few weeks ago when visiting my brother. Very cool place and recommend checking it out whenever your in the area.

Could be some kind of linkage attachment.

It looks like a linkage that would go on the side of a fuel pump. The "ball" part would have a linkage rod hooked it and the ball would allow it to pivot.
