Update: Chuckie got real sick last night. I didn’t feel sick but I didn’t quite make it to the potty house this morning and had kind of an accident.
We have never had this problem before with morels.
They didn’t look bad, smelled normal.
But half of them he found on a walking trail in town, wonder if they sprayed something down there?

If a mushroom has a wrinkled, not pitted, cap, it’s not a morel.

If a mushroom has a stem that is not hollow, it’s not a morel.

If a mushroom has a cap that is attached to the stem only at the top, it’s not a morel.

If a mushroom has a cap that is globular or has lobes pointing in different directions, it’s not a morel.

If a mushroom is fruiting in the wrong place or at the wrong time, it’s probably not a morel.

These were morels for sure. But something didn’t set right. I sautéed the heck out of them. They say even a brief sautée will take care of any toxins
