Yup!

Was told once, take a bucket of water. Throw water on fence, if no water gets through, your goats won’t either.

I plan on using 50" cattle panels for a corral for some pigmy & boer goats I'm getting this year. I'm planning to attach the 16' panels (not yet sure how many panels to use for each corral) with a couple spring hook ~carabiners. Hopefully it works. I don't want to deal w/ them jumping/climbing out, but I want a fence that is moveable. If they won't self-supprt, I might use some fence posts or ~lean some against a tree. Of course I'll watch to ensure heads don't get caught in the panels.
If need be I might attach a barbed wire strand to the top of each panel.
I'm open to suggestions.

Don't attach any braces on the inside of the fence as they will use them as a ladder. Regular fence wire has to big of holes and you will spend a lot of time poking their head back through the holes. Those hons will catch on the way back out.

2 16' panels bent into a circle make a great portable corral, you can roll it or drag it.

The hog type panels with the graduated small to larger spacings from bottome to top work well. I wouls still run a hot wire up near the top to keep them from trying to climb the fence. Goats are hard to keep in but they are smart enought to know how to get back in. We put goats with our sheep one year and will never do that again.

That's interesting. I say that only b/c when I went to buy some of my goats, they had sheep in w/ the goats.

As for fencing, from what I can tell I'd like cattle panels better than hog panels. I am aware though that baby goats can sneak through cattle panels. Although the cattle panels I found at the store do have smaller holes for the bottom ~foot.

Cattle panels are ok if you don't have horns otherwise lots of horns stuck. My son has 100 club ewes and 40+ club does , his whole facility it panels. If you get 10 or so make sure you have a really strong corner you can bunch them in to worm and give shots . We worked everything he has this morning getting ready to AI in a couple weeks use a panel in a corner reinforced with 2 by 8s.

By the way i hate goats , just pests .

Electric fence works just get enough strands, use wire, it has to be tight, and a few nice ground rods. When you turn them loose into it they get out and you throw them back in for the first few hours training them. After about 3 or 4 training events they figure out they'd rather not get shocked to get through.

I'm surprized they haven't banned pack goats in Montana yet due to the possibility of them transmitting diseases to wild sheep. Or, are they able to test goats to certify that they are disease free?

I don't think that goats and sheep is a poor mix, but our fence held our sheep but not the goats, so that is our reason for separating. We pasture a small flock of 20 ewes on about 2.5 acres and we were not going to redue all that fencing for the goats.

I believe that they have banned them in certain forests and area due to that very reason.

If you look up the word oxymoron in the dictionary, two words will be in there, side by side - goat and fence. smile

Maybe it depends at least partly on the breed of goats

I'm surprised that people use goats as a pack animal, I know they do but why? How much weight can they realistically carry?

I would think that burros would be better, I guess they have a reputation for being stubborn, but worse than a goat? Just curious....
