Read or saw or heard somewhere that there is something you can add to gloss paint so it doesn't shine.
Anyone know anything about that?
I'm thinking its something simple like corn starch

Probably not what you're after but flattening agents for paint are readily available.

Eh...wot?

The higher the gloss on house paint the longer the paint will last....

Well here is what happened
Bought some used traps. Bought some speed dip.
Never used speed dip before. Some of the dip was mixed when bought.
used it on a few traps last year. turned out good. Added the new can of speed dip which came with the speed dip deal. Added it to 1 gallon of camp fuel. and mixed with the already mixed stuff.
dipped 17 traps.
Some of the traps are shiny. Those that were really really rusty were ok. those not as rusty have shiny spots (read pans and spring crevices and some of the jaws).
Ain't sure what to do.
just

BTW you can thicken paint with corn starch . But thats another project.
Dulling it ain't so easy.

AKAjust ,
You got my brain thinkin......

I work in a metal plating shop. One if the finishes we do is black oxide. I wonder what your traps would look like if they got black oxide first and then Speed Dip or whatever dye/paint/wax on the top coat. Black oxide will not protect from rust , so it would have to covered in something more resistant.

I would think this would be a deeper darker overall finish.

Has anyone tried this ? Or is it time for the mad scientist (me) to go to my laboratory and do some 'evil black' experiments ?

Thoughts ? Anyone ?
