Only hens and jakes first things. About 7:30ish we hear some hens off in the distance, then watch as 2 coyotes come through the fields checking things out.

About 8:30 I see two hens coming in ready to fight the decoys, well as I'm telling my husband birds are coming in, I see the smaller of the two coyotes circling back around. Hens were at about 15-20 yards right out in front of us, and that coyote was coming in, stopped to stare at them one second to long and the husband gave him a face full of #5s. He dropped on the spot.

No turkeys after that. Tomorrows another day.

More and more coyotes seem to be showing up on my setups here the last few years. Ran into a lot of tracks in WI last week the heavy turkey tracked sand trails had lots of yote prints in the same areas.

Was born in a Big City Will die in the Country OK with that!

Snared my first coyote in NJ in 1978. We have lots of coyotes, lots of bobcats (but no season yet) and surprisingly lots of red fox ,but grays are rare since the mid 90's. Have fisher here too. Biggest varmint here is the turkey. They ate our grouse chicks til there are no grouse left. State transferred turkeys to south NJ and they proceeded to eat the quail chicks so now there are few/no quail in south Jersey.
Here is another shocker for you: The more houses you build the more wild animals you have. I have trapped in many different states and nowhere are the animal populations as thick as in New Jersey.

Fragmentation of habitat and avian predators sure didn't help NJ Quail. But few people want to acknowledge the Turkeys destructiveness. They are after all the darlings of game departments. I believe they were the coup de gras to the jersey grouse population. I would take pre 92 South Jersey Quail populations over the rats with wings any Day of the week.

Coyotes destroyed the fox population in the early 80’s here you can’t kill enough of them and grays are non existent

Last few turkey seasons we've had Coyotes come in when calling, also have seen more chasing fawns later in the turkey season. dust em when you can.
