Found a 40# propane cylinder in the road at a 4-way crossing on a county highway a few years ago, right before Christmas. I took it out of the road and set it next to the stop sign. The next day there was a piece of cardboard with a note left in its place, said something like “thank you for leaving my cylinder, Merry Christmas and God bless”
I’ve been sayin yes sir all day at work, I’ve been sayin yes ma’am at home…

Found an abandon police car along the side of the road once, even left his lights flashing. Nice car though...

Couple receiver hitches with 2" ball, gas can, 5 gallon buckets, ratchet straps, wrenches. It always irritates me to be traveling in congested traffic like through Denver on the interstate and spot all those bungee straps I cannot stop for. Saw a kayak once in the median, but left it figuring the owner would surely be looking for that one. Lost my daughter's new life jacket out of the boat, saw it go. By the the time I got turned around, it was already snatched up. Reminded me of hitting a coon in 1982. Hardly stopped sliding before it was picked up.

A friend I worked with , his wife stopped by the job one day.
She told him she found a Stihl chainsaw in the road and put it in the trunk. He wanted to see it so he got her to bring it in the shop. She brings it in , decent looking saw. He turns it over and on the bottom it was engraved " town of xxx highway dept "
He tells her to quickly and quietly put it back in the trunk.
I don't think the town of xxx ever seen that saw again......lol

driving big farm machinery around to different fields I'm always eyeing the ditches looking for stuff. 5gal buckets, tackle boxes, gas cans, mystery coolers with random stuff inside, lifejackets, chainsaw, flashlights ya just never know what ya might find Went to cultivate a corn field down in the bottoms where the water gets up and no houses for a 6 mile stretch. I pulled into the field and there out of sight behind the levee and out of view from the highway was a state police cruiser. I cultivated for a couple hours and then another cruiser pulled in and let a lady cop out. She got out of there before I got to the end. Always did wish I would have had a for sale sign to put on that car. I don't know if that was a freebie for him or if it was on the taxpayers time, lol!

Our neighbors did the “adopt a highway” in memory of a neighbor who passed. We pick up 2.9 miles of Hwy 42 in front of our houses/farms in the spring and again in the fall. Hwy 42 is one of the main roads linking St Louis to the Lake of the Ozarks. You cannot imagine some of the things found. Cell phones, game cameras, cash, tools, life jackets, paddles, all forms of fishing gear, spare tires, sex toys, etc.
Along with a couple truck loads of beer cans/bottles and those little shooter bottles of whiskey.

Right..... They used to be cheap until the epa got involved.... Swamp,,,,, My remedy for that situation , is never drain the entire can.... I buy all my gas cans at garage sales for a couple bucks. These new ones are hard to operate, cost too much, and spill too easily.
Must be nice to eat ice cream as fast as you want and not have to worry about brain freeze.

I don't think the town of xxx ever seen that saw again......lol I found a Husky saw in the ditch one day, had a sticker on it from the saw shop it was sold at... in New Jersey! Set it on a stump on the side of the road in case the owner came back looking for it, the next day when it was still there I figured the owner wasn't coming back and took it home.
