Another great photo 330. I do have to wonder how the operator got on and off the tractor though and how they reached the hand crank.

Why would one de-tassle corn ?
Doesn't the pollen from it pollinate the silk ?

Detasseling corn is a form of pollination control that involves removing the pollen-producing flowers, the tassel, from the tops of corn plants and placing them on the ground123. It is employed to cross-breed or hybridize two varieties of corn123. Fields of corn that will be detasseled are planted with two varieties of corn1. Farmers get their seed from companies that cross-pollinate corn to create hybrids with beneficial traits like drought tolerance and disease resistance3. Unless you are growing seed corn to plant the following year, there is no reason to detassel your corn4.
