I have a 10x20 shed that I'm going to be using for a fur shed upgrade, the problem is that it has a dirt floor in it. So the only solution is to pour a pad or build a skid and I want it to be moveable for when I move out in a few years, so skid it is. I've been left to myself to figure out what I need to build a skid for it so it can be moved in the future. The other thing is that it's going to be heated so insulating the floor is probably a thing that will be needing done too. If any of you guys have experience with this sort of thing, can you help a guy out and point me in the right direction for the materials needed? The thickness of plywood for the floor, where to put insulation if I should put it in the floor, what size of wood is needed, etc. Thank you, I appreciate it a lot!

First question to be answered is how will you transport the skids in the future. 102 inches is pretty much the max width allowed without special permits on most roads and highways, but there may be other more restrictive road regulations so check your intended routes.

The shed is initially going to be hauled to the house on a rollback or a flat gooseneck trailer depending on the availability of people but after it's at the house here, it won't be moved for 2-3 years. So, in my mind, that's a question for a later date.

My advice. Just use it (as is).

When you move out, build a new/ bigger one.

Make it so it comes apart when it’s time to move it. Like those snap together houses getting hauled down the highway, they’re just split down the middle.

I would frame a floor out of 2x8, cover those with 1” rough boards, a layer of tyvek or tarpaper. Then I would set building on the floor, make sure floor is built square. Then I would put 3/4” foil faced insulation on the floor and cover it with 3/4” plywood. Seal the seams and paint it. Use pressure treated joists if you can afford em, expensive nowadays. Then I would elevate the building on a few cement blocks, put some skids under it when it’s time to move it. I would also put one row of bridging down the middle and put a couple extra bridging in first two bays on each end.

this ,

or get a house with a garage , unless your dropping a pile of coin on this right now , save the money you would put in a floor for a down payment on a house later.

a load of gravel and set the shed on it your folks can use it to park the lawn mower in later.

I think these guys are on the right track, but I'm thinking of a different reason. As serious as you are taking trapping, you will outgrow a 10x20 in no time at all. Save a little money and when you get settled in somewhere else in a few years go bigger!

I moved my fur shed across the Missouri River on a stack mover 13x40 then I put it on a slab after that. The one thing I would have done differently would be putting in floor heat in the slab.

Find some longer bridge ties for skids if you’re set on moving it that’s not as big of a deal in farm country with the equipment that’s available often. Shave the skid tips and put metal tips on the ends maybe. 2X6 or 2X8 floors over railroad ties temporarily should fix the flooding issue.

I paid a guy to transport and set my 40’ storage container at my place so options are available to get that done rather reasonably, I paid the guy $250 but he only wanted $200 to do the job.

The "Amish" portable sheds have 4 or 5 4x4s as a base with a 3/4" plywood floor, They move them with a hydraulic car hauler trailer, and can be rolled into position if needed. But that's built from scratch, to add something now to withstand moving probably isn't worth it. You'd have to lift the shed and build a new base, and the shed would need to survive the lifting.

I agree , just leave it and start fresh.

You can do a lot with a couple handymen jacks and fence posts when you need to move a smaller building around.

I would but the thinking is for when I move out to take the shed with all the stuff in it and just drop it at the new place or whenever so it's less unpacking and such but plans can change a lot in 2 years.

So I was recommended by a shed builder to use 4x6 skids under the outside walls going front to back so 20' span, how many would you guys put under like that? I.E. 4 foot on center, 2 foot on center, etc.

For that short of a time in situ, you'll need to put down gravel anyway, so just put in more and use that as a floor. Maybe lay plywood on that.

It's a 2x4 stick framing, I have no clue what's keeping it down I guess but it's not much since they dropped it there just like it's going to get picked up.

Here's what the inside looks like

YT. I feel and appreciate your desire but from those pics, I'd pass on spending $$ and time on that project.

Any chance it can stay where it is now for you to use?
