I tried some float sets for beaver for the first time. I had 2 of them made out of logs set about 4 feet apart on a river. This morning one was still set but the other the 330 was snapped off and hanging on the left log. How in the world could that 330 be hanging on that log just as though someone picked it up and put over the log for storage. This is not a place anyone would be and the other set 4 feet away in plain sight was still set.

I see sprung 330's (with nothing in them) every single day I trap almost. Lot's of things can happen to cause it. A beaver likely did it but hit it from the side or grabbed the frame of the trap with its feet or turned around right at the trap and hit it with its rump or tail. I also catch beaver on occasion by the feet or tail to back up these hypotheses.

Rats and mink set off #330s without getting caught, too.

I had 2 baits 1 1/2” aspen screwed to a center platform on float set with stick fencing to block side entrance completely chewed off and stolen 330 still set. Whoever says you don’t need fencing I beg to differ.several other stolen baits out of other type of sets I’m going to put some cameras on sets so I can watch the show.

That sounds like a great idea. Let us know what you see through the camera lens.

I always check around the set when I have a sprung 330. Sometimes rats spring them and don't get caught but I think the jaw kills them and they are dead near the set.

I'm not sure, but I don't think the trap was just snapped. By the description, it sounds like it was hung on the log by the jaws.
