Give a couple soft calls and stay quiet and just wait and not doing anything else till he walks in. Good luck.

Flap your hat to simulate a fly down and start calling, if he hasn't pin pointed your location

Wet or cold will keep them in the trees longer at times.

Archery is tough it’s tough to get the draw but the blinds great for that. Good luck

40 yds? He was way too close.

Best to call em in....not call em down when they're lookin' at ya.

Only had it work ONCE when accidentally setting up that close in the dark. As it was breaking light we heard drumming and knew immediately we’d screwed up. We didn’t make a sound or movement and really lucked up when he basically pitched straight down in front of the gun barrel.
I did learn something even that close. When he faced us while gobbling on the limb it would almost make you jump. When he pivoted the opposite direction it was definitely quieter. That’s probably how we misjudged the distance when roosting the evening before.
Again, I’d screwed up and got too close a few times, but it only worked once, lol. The only thing worse than setting up too close in the dark, is running into a limb hopping bird. You know, the kind you set up perfect on and instead of flying down he limb hops almost 100yds to look for the hen that just ain’t coming to him!

The last batch I watched flying off the roost sailed down the draw rather than land in open pasture flats on both sides of the draw they never did break cover the whole time I was hunting them. It’s early so things will go differently after they disperse and start avoiding other groups.

I wouldn't call at all. Set up this morning with a tom drumming 30 yards in back of me. He flew down 50 yards out and kept working away (other turkeys).
