1,523 is a lot of beaver for any auction these days !!!

2,350 is a lot of muskrats for that auction lately as well !!!

But then again, New York State has a lot of wild fur trappers
and sells a lot of trapping licenses each year.

9,973 resident trapping licenses in 2022-2023.
1,799 resident senior trapping.
122 lifetime resident trapping.
284 Jr resident trapping.
62 non-resident trapping.
9 Jr non-resident trapping.

A milder than usual winter helped to boost those numbers, for sure !!! laugh

Today, Beaver populations are high in NY. The NYSDEC issued almost 100 nuisance permits last year in Lewis County alone. Soon nuisance permits will be available online self issued.

According to the NYS Fish & Game Comm. report of 1902-03, there were only 2 known beaver colonies in all of NY State, somewhere in the Town of Webb in the Adirondacks.

Winters have been getting warmer and less snow and freezing every year. Trappers have a lot more open water trapping. A lot easier than trapping through 2 feet of ice. That gets a lot of people out and about trapping more. And rising prices. That's my take on it

I think Dale hit it on the head. Most guys would be by the wood stove if we had the snow/ice.
