Here in Georgia the early spuds are already blooming. We get them in the ground end of February first of March.

The missus talked me into trying those. I sold on them and love them. But the kennebecs are just a good all around all purpose cooking spud that stores well if left in the ground. Down here due to our heat it's either leave in the ground and dig as needed or set up a freezer on a thermocouple. I could dig a pit and store them under dirt but that's digging them twice.

The golds don't store as long or fry up as well. But they got better flavor.

Here in Northern Utah, Pontiac, Russets and Yukon Golds all do great. We're just now finishing up our 2023 stored potatoes. Just got this seasons crop in.

I’m jealous folks……middle of a blizzard here. Still lots of ice on lake. Sitting in front of fire wishing I was even close to planting potatoes.

AK72 mine are not far behind yours. I hilled them up for the 2nd time and covered them with straw on Tuesday. We planted about 40-45# this this year. If I'm lucky, I'll be able to get a 2nd crop. It's nice having a nearly 200 day growing season.

Here is my harvest from last summer. Over 180# of Kennebec, Yukon gold, and red Pontiac.

I drilled holes in the bottom of the tub, planted 5 seed potatoes in each tub, I can say they took off growing fast as they came through the dirt I kept covering them until tub was 3/4 full, If they make potatoes all I have to do is dump them out and no digging
So far I’m really impressed with it will have to see how it produces

I grew around 500 lbs of potatoes last year. Way too much for my needs, and my back was not happy from all the tilling/hilling/digging and hauling heavy bags uphill, but I got carried away. I planted a mix of several varieties. Svitanok and Altai Red are probably the best-tasting and versatile, Excellency grew well but tastes too soapy to me, and a nameless variety I grew from several grocery store spuds imported from Israel produced huge spuds, and Japanese beetles mostly ignored it..probably a GM strain. I'll plant it again this year in a couple of weeks smile

Excellency produced some interesting shapes %)

I got another two months before I plant. Always a good snow storm in early June at my place.
