If I take a bird this year at the ranch, I will take a jake. I will see from 12 to 20 all together at times. Thier fans are just about full now but have 2 to 3 inch beards.
Those are good looking birds. Let the arrow fly.
Give me a fish, I will eat for a day. Teach me to fish, I will eat for a lifetime

Yes, three jakes. Flogged my decoy for about 45 mins. Was fun to watch! Perfect morning buts it's been slow. Haven't heard a gobble yet. Ive only hunted out of a turkey blind but a handful of times. It's kind of boring...Giving it till 10:00 a.m. then changing course to the Crappie spawn. Big storms coming around 4 today.
Ol dad We got 1.25" rain overnight. Headed your way!
Life ain't supposed to be easy.

Ol dad Normally we run and gun. Call locate a tom and work out way close slowly. Not very boring. But the place I'm hunting has over 8 miles of road public land each side that dead ends. If we blow one shot we just go down the road a little more and find another bird. Have not had much luck having them come in like love struck teens so we tried slipping up on them. Worked great last season with both boys taking big mature toms. Got to say they would have shot the Jake's also. Or at least I think they would have.they have only killed two turkey each at this point so any legal bird is game on. Our youth starts tomorrow. Trying a small shallow pond for the first time now. To much moss for me. Just waiting for my 13 year old to decide he is done.
