Picked up some today. First I've seen for awhile. $79.99/1000. Good?

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I have cheddite primers available all day around here. I'm just getting started in shotshell reloading and prefer to use more "standard" components. Have heard cheddite primers do not seat properly in some hulls. For the record, I don't have a press, yet. Looking at a MEC sizemaster. Any clues on a good price, new or used, would be great. Looking to load 20 and 28 ga.

There is a MEC 20 ga Sizemaster SM77 on my auction.

Item 503.:You might want to keep your eye on it.

There is a MEC 20 ga Sizemaster SM77 on my auction.

Item 503.: The auction company has it incorrectly described as "8567 Single stage for 12 ga" Hopefully it gets changed PDQ

You might want to keep your eye on it.

Trapperkeck, my son and I have been using the Cheddites for 3 or more years without any issues at all. We typically pay $300 per case (5K) though as of late the price seems to be dropping slightly. I personally go through approximately 10k plus a year in 12, 20, 28, and 410. I use Remington STS, Nitro, Gun Club, and Field & Clay hulls all with the same load in the 12. The 20 gets Gun Club, STS Premier, Field & Clay hulls again all the same loading. The 28 and 410 get Winchester AA hulls. I have measured, with a Brown&Sharpe micrometer, a lot of different primers and found that all that I have handled measured well within acceptable published tolerances, especially when considering the primer pockets on pliable plastic hulls with a thin pierced brass base. The only primer that I had any issue with were the Fiocchi, But only because the flange on the primer cup was not formed square and would catch on the edge of the priming station of my 9000G presses. My son uses strictly 12ga Fiocchi hulls. He also loads 16ga hunting loads with Bismuth shot for all his waterfowl hunting. He is forced to use a variety of hulls for the 16. Again no primer issues.

Did you substitute the Cheddite primer for load recipe using Winchester primers? Or others too? The pressure rating varies depending on primers, hulls, etc

Cheddites are a tiny bit smaller than other primers so they may be slightly loose in some pockets that have previously held other brands.

Here's a chart with some dimensions.

The only dimension that I am concerned with is the "C" diameter. That's where the primer seats with the brass and plastic together. The "A" dimension applies to less than a third of the total height.

I just substituted the Cheddites for my usual Fed 209A. I did send a half dozen each of my loads out of my presses to an acquaintance who had pressure testing equipment to be checked out. They are all good and perform as expected. He has since unfortunately passed but there are others. No, I won't share my load data. They are safe and do a good job of crushing targets in my guns, maybe not in yours
