I know this has been talked about this on here before. My brother has about 3 acres to plant on sandy ground and would like to know what would work the best for fall deer hunting. He is not a farmer but does have a tractor to work up the ground. He would like to know what is the best to plant and how much seeds to buy, and when to plant? Thanks this is in northern lower Michigan.

Hear in MO your best bang for buck is Cereal rye, Feed oats, and red clover planted is September. Purple top turnips planted in Aug. If interested can get rates. Think many of the QDMA guys up there did the same only earlier.

For sandy ground, I'd do alfalfa now in half the plot and the other half in a cerial grain in early Sept.
It's not easy to get brassicas to grow in sandy soil unless you get alot of rains.

if sandy soil you are going to have to build up soil, fine a farm in the area, and haul in as much manure as you can get, keep till it in soil until fall, and plant rye or oats the first year
